Hogs, like this one on the Booker T. Washington birthplace near Moneta, VA, were once common on farms. They provided easily preservable meat, lard for cooking, and leather. They were low maintenance, as they could forage for food and survive harsh conditions. Driving Backroads.

Some recent shots of the Old Salem Church and Cemetery, Ohio County, KY. The oldest graves reportedly date to 1832. The church was founded around 1845, as a Methodist Church, but over the years was used by several denominations. The original building burned and another following it burned, also. According to my source, the current building was the Old Salem School, a one room schoolhouse that closed in 1934, and was deeded to the church. Driving Backroads.
