The property permanently closed its doors in 1954 and today stands as a well-known regional legend rather than an active lodging destination.

The site has gained a significant reputation among ghost hunters and paranormal enthusiasts:
-The "Lady in White": Local legend and historical police logs from the 1970s detail sightings of a phantom bride rumored to be crying in Room 213.

It originally opened in September 1928 as the New Tackett Theater, envisioned by proprietor John Tackett and theater pioneer Glen W. Dickinson. It was renamed the Midland Theatre in 1929 when Fox Midwest Theatres took over operations.

Designed by local architect Clare A. Henderson, the structure represents a classic, early 20th-century "movie palace" featuring a beautiful terra cotta facade.

The original layout boasted a 1,200-seat main auditorium tailored for both vaudeville and motion pictures. Its lobby featured crimson and gold cloth tapestries, soft blue walls, and gold-painted trim filigreed moldings.
