“The Bucket shot - 2020”
Mesa Arch is one of the most photographed rock formations in all of Utah, overlooking Canyonlands National Park, and it's not exactly hard to get to either. About a 10 minute walk away from a parking lot, I've heard horror stories about how hundreds of photographers and tourists come to pack the area daily, making it incredibly difficult to get a shot exactly the way you would like it. Online there are thousands of pictures looking through the arch, but I knew I had to go there for myself to see if I could capture this incredible view through my lens. Thankfully, when I went to Canyonlands with my Girlfriend, it was after shooting King of the Hammers 2020, and early February isn't exactly peak tourist season in Moab, Utah. We woke up at 4am, drove about an hour from our Air BnB and saw only one other vehicle in the parking lot to the trail head. I grabbed my tripod, D750, a few lenses and ran to the edge of the canyon. It's much smaller in person, the window of the arch might be 4 feet tall, and 30 feet wide, but the view looking west along the canyon wall cannot be put into words. Red rock spires, deep trenches, beauty created by the hand of the Almighty by way of millions of years of erosion. We sat on the edge of the cliff for about 45 minutes in the freezing cold, and at 6:19 AM I pressed the shutter. ISO 50, F/22 for maximum depth of field, and a 4 second exposure at 20mm. The weather was perfect. Crystal clear blue skies, La Sal Mountains in full view in the background, and the sunrise cast an incredible firey red glow on the underside of the arch. About 30 seconds later, the phenomenon was over and the light was completely flat. I captured the shot I dreamed of taking for years. I was inspired by Peter McKinnon to go out and get my "Bucket Shot". Something from more or less a bucket list of photos in my head, shots you need to get before your time here on Earth is done. A photo you've built in your mind for years, knowing you need to go out and take it and make it your own. My goal is that each year I can go out and get one of these views, and i've been incredibly blessed to have seen what I have through my camera lens so far.

There is nothing like waking up early before the rest of the world, when everything is still covered in darkness, and you know that beautiful landscape is still there waiting for you.

Hi everyone. Today our Governor here in NY stated he is banning all non-essential gatherings of any size for any reason, in the name of safety for us all. I understand these are difficult times, and if you have placed a deposit with me to book a shoot, I will send you a message, but feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. This virus, and the reaction regarding it has been incredibly damaging to the stability of thousands of small businesses around the country. I will do everything I can to reschedule dates that might need to be moved, and honor the commitments made before this year was turned upside down. Thank you all for your support, and understanding.

Photos from the tops of mountains are always so gratifying. The views cannot be put into words, and the feeling of knowing you conquered miles of difficult terrain makes the summit even sweeter. I highly recommend spending as much time in the hills as your schedule allows, there’s nothing else like it. @ Gothics, Adirondacks

Sometimes it can be hard to find creativity in crazy moments in our lives, like what we are all experiencing now. It can be easy to be consumed by negativity and fear - so from now, until this all is over I will be posting photos that have made me the happiest to take, and share. Hopefully they can transport you to a more carefree place, and bring you a smile. Picture it’s a hot July evening, and you have the top down in a classic car, the Rolling Stones are on the radio and nothing else matters except just going for a cruise.

Got some shots for Torq-Masters Industries out at #KOH2020!

We've been a long time supporter of this team, they are the embodiment of what Stock Class is all about, and great friends of ours. For 2019 Team Hack Sack retired their 3 year old Aussie Locker that's raced 3 King of the Hammers, and finished twice! They upgraded to the TORQ Locker which held up to ........ got to read their story for the rest!
.
King of The Hammers race story from Joshua Greenleaf, co-driver of Hack Shack Racing #4632
.
Now that I've had a day to think about the last two weeks all I can say is wow. King of the hammers is a wild ride and we will be back next year to redeem ourselves.
.
When we first got there we already had an idea the race jeep wasn't 100% under the hood but we were hopeful the engine was gonna pull through. That quickly showed that wasn't the case. So right away when we got there we started to dig into the engine. We had some low oil pressure and some valve train noise so we pulled the head to inspect the lifters and cam. At first it seemed to look pretty normal. But we quickly figured out the cam was pulling back in the block and the timing gear was eating the front of the block. So we pulled the stroker and replaced it for a stock 4.0. Tues afternoon the jeep was running and we set out prerunning. It didn't take long to realize the stocker was hurt too. Burning a ton of oil and soon developed a bad misfire. So we figured out #6 cyl had a bad valve. We then swapped the stock head for the built stroker head but the built head has different valves so after a bunch of trial and error we finally got the correct combination of parts for the rockers and puchrods. By Sunday before the race the jeep was finally running good! We did a ton of prerunning and felt ready to go.
.
Race day comes and we set out strong. We made it to cougar butes where we rolled over. No big deal I've rolled a bunch of times. We make quick work and with the help from Mike Justo we were back on our wheels and pulling another rolled over car back on its wheels. Right away we knew we broke the pass side rcv. So 3wd it was. We pushed on to about mile 75 in the guacamole trail. We took a line the car made with 4wd but with a broke axle we got jammed up. We pulled cable and in all the mess something ended up breaking in the steering column of the jeep so we lost steering. After a couple hours and John Mackiewicz running to the pits to get a steering box we figured out the column was done so we were able to limp the car back to main pit and we called it a day. Definitely not what we had planned but that's racing.
.
Huge thanks to John for taking me on this adventure and trusting me as a co-driver and also everyone that helped out on the lake bed. Cameron Rogers Adam Leydic Melissa Conway Christopher M Bradley Eric Swenson Steve Mack and especially thanks to Sara Greenleaf for being so behind my crazy ideas.
.
