❄️ -42°F in Alaska. 4 nights of snow clouds. Exploring a glacier and ice cave. 3,500 miles from home.

🌌 I came to Alaska alone with no guide and no sub-zero experience hoping the aurora would finally appear… and then the sky opened up over the mountains. This is what chasing the Northern Lights solo actually looks like when nobody’s showing you the way.

🤠 First-ever Ehrhardt Pro Rodeo and it did not disappoint!

💪 Huge thank you to the Ehrhardt rodeo crew for letting me come out and capture the action. Despite the rain, these cowboys and cowgirls showed up and gave it their all. That kind of grit and dedication is what the American spirit is all about.

🤔 As the rain fell again, I had a decision; do I play it safe or risk a drone flight in poor conditions to get the shot? It was my last full day in Iceland; there was no turning back.

• 📍 Hengifoss, located in East Iceland
• 🌊 One of Iceland’s tallest waterfalls at ~128 m (420 ft)
• 🪨 Famous for its red clay layers sandwiched between dark basalt rock
• 🌋 The red bands are ancient sediment, formed between lava flows
• 🌫️ Moody weather makes the colors and contrast even more dramatic

⭐ The stars were popping on a cold clear night in rural SC!

⚙️ Obviously these photos are not what I could see with the naked eye; however by allowing the shutter on my Panasonic Lumix S5 to remain open for 20 seconds, it gathered quite a bit of light. I was amazed at how much color detail could be brought back in Lightroom editing!

👀 Don't miss the aurora shots I hope to capture in Alaska later this winter!
