Although not as flashy as some warblers, the Tennessee warbler is still a beautiful bird in my opinion. They are long-distance migrators that winter in Central and South America and breed in the boreal forests of Canada. In winter, they congregate on coffee plantations, and some experts believe that 'coffee warbler' would be a better name for them.

Every year I see hundreds of red-winged blackbirds but I have never seen the yellow-headed blackbird despite spending a lot of time in their preferred habitat. Last week I saw one for the first time and was able to get a few captures. -Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge.

The Harris’s sparrow is the largest sparrow in North America at 1.3 oz except for the Eastern Towhee. If you see one it was born in the far northern reaches of Canada. It is the only place they breed. With their pink beak and black bib they are visually striking. The black bib has an important role in determining status and dominance. This was my first time seeing one of these interesting little guys. - Carlton County, MN
