Kami and I travelled to the Mexican Riviera. I captured the whale photos on an excursion and given all the challenges, I’m stunned I managed to capture these photos.

This post isn't something I wanted to write but I feel it's important to share the news regardless. As we all know that the pandemic has created a lot of havoc and my photography is caught up in that. I didn't have a lot of travel planned this past year to minimize the chances of contracting covid. The two places we planned to visit were Hawaii and Alaska. Hawaii went off without a hitch. Alaska had tons of hitches. To create a calendar for 2022, I needed both trips to go smoothly so I could capture enough photos but sadly that did not happen. So I'm sad to announce for the first time, I will not have a calendar for next year. I tried to do what I could but the weather in Alaska completely wrecked all hopes I had of putting together enough shots for a calendar. My photography lives on and I hope that next year will provide more opportunities. I appreciate your patience and again I'm sorry. I hope you can understand and will find forgiveness.

We arrived back in Phoenix on Friday morning and it was an amazing trip to Maui. I had a few different tools to take photos of the sights and this was taken from a drone above Makena Beach.

Hi all. I hope that you are doing well and that 2021 has been far better to you than the previous year was. Kami and I have been working very hard in our day jobs and we are each realizing that we need some time away from keyboards and in my case, therapist chairs.

Because our vacations usually mean lots of photos, I’m excited to announce that we will be traveling to Maui in a few weeks and I’ll have plenty of camera gear in tow for that trip. Last year when I made this kind of announcement I ended up jinxing our travel plans so I hope the same thing isn’t repeated here.

If you have been to Maui and know some great locations for photos or some island secrets, we’d love it if you’d share them via the comments below.

Part of what makes Kami and I a great photography team is she's able to read me and know exactly what I'm thinking. For example, this scene. She knew it was a shot I wanted before I said I wanted it. So the car pulled over and she drove around for 5 minutes while I took the photos. Acadia is filled with scenes like this so she was reading me a lot.

This is another shot I owe Kami some thanks for. In the past I've shot some Sunburst photos and while not technically difficult to shoot, you do need the right environment and timing to do it. It just so happens we were at the right time and place. I readily admit that when I'm shooting, I'm focused on my vision and I miss other details. Kami is my other details person and she pointed out the sun peeking through the trees. She asked "can you do that Starburst thing"? Yes, yes I can.

I'm back from Acadia and I am going through photos now. Normally I never like having people in my photos (ask Kami how much I love people being in my shots lol) but on this particular morning, Kami showed me a photo she took of a couple watching the waves and that got me thinking about other opportunities. I saw this woman walking up to the edge and right before she began taking photos with her phone, I captured this image. Thank you to my wife for the photo idea, she's a great photographer as well.

Hi all! Like most of you, 2020 didn't turn out as I had planned. Specifically the amount of travel I was expecting dropped sharply to....none. Fortunate, we were able to travel to Austria and Germany before everything went haywire. The trip to Portland was cancelled as was a cruise in Northern Europe. So plan B is Acadia National Park next month. That trip should produce some excellent photo opportunities and with all of the cruise lines shut down, it offers me an opportunity to explore the park without the added traffic and people.

What I'm less confident in is having enough material to produce a calendar this year. Because I try to be pretty selective when putting photos into a calendar, most trips I go on result in 1-4 photos that are calendar worthy. That's as few as 1 photo out of 600-1200 shots per trip! Given that we visited 3 cities in Austria that helps the chances of having more material. Acadia is known world wide as a must go to place for fall photos so I am hopeful I can round out the calendar there. I will know where I'm at on being able to produce a calendar in November. Stay tuned!

Sadly due to covid-19, Art in the yard is being postponed until the fall. Thank you for your support and I hope to have updates to share soon.

If you're free on March 28th, I'll be at Art in the Yard. This is the first time in 4 years that I've been there so there's lots of my work that will have never been on display before. If you're itching for more details, send me a message and I'll be happy to fill you on in where, what time, etc.

If you own an electronic device, odds are you've seen this place on a screensaver. I saw it on my tv and then I saw it on the travel book for Austria. Next thing I knew I was looking at maps on how to get to Hallstaat. Hallstaat is currently in the middle of a love/hate relationship with tourists. The town has become famous in China and in 2018 over 1 million people visited a town that is 1 mile long and has less than 800 people in it. As you might imagine, they don't have the infrastructure to support that level of tourism. Many of the people who are going there are wanting to take a few selfies and then they leave. Kami and I did not do that and tried to be the best kind of tourists you could have in your community. I'd say next time you're in Austria stop by Hallstaat but I think they'd rather not have any more people stop by for a while.
