A little something different for introductions:
Hi! 🙌🏻 I'm Leah. That face is my face.
I get a lot of my inspiration from films and stories. But based on the children’s books I read when I was little though, I was sure getting caught in quicksand was something I'd have to face pretty regularly as an adult.
WELL, THE LITERATURE WAS RIGHT.
Except for me it was Carolina lowcountry pluff mud.
In the middle of an engagement shoot.
And it took two men to heft me out because I was *stuck*
In case you don’t know that pluff mud exists (like me- until I was in it) - it’s just like quick sand, except muddier. And pluffier.
Fortunately, it was hilarious fun and we all laughed it off and moved on, and I continued the shoot despite being coated to the knee in the marshy consequences of an adventurous scouting session. (I tell you you don’t know how grateful you are for your clients until they heave you out of the marsh with a very nice suit on) - scroll to see the aftermath.
It happens to all of us though. We all get caught in our own pluff mud in life and we have choices once we're out and all muddied up. I see this happen so often with fellow photographers and with cients on rainy wedding days, or when uncle Bob just bit it and fell into the cake.
In my case:
👉🏻Cry and complain and turn into food for the crabs
👉🏻Laugh it off and move on, (a little more wary of suspicious looking sand)
✨ Life is beautiful, life is messy, life is for adventures, and getting caught in the spirit of the moment with each other. ✨
I recently read on (absolute wizards of site design) Anything you can't control is the BEST kind of teacher. It teaches you to let go.
I'm GLAD I got stuck. I had an incredible time with my clients afterwards and we shared a unique moment none of us will ever forget.
And also-- don’t ever forget the magic of children’s books, you’ll never know when you need to figure out how to escape from dangerous all-consuming caterpillars or tigers coming to tea. 🐅 ☕️.
