I’m so grateful to have been part of SCOUT this year. Thank you to the curators for the opportunity, and to the incredible SCOUT, , and teams for bringing it all together.
It was such a beautiful experience connecting with new collectors, sharing stories, and seeing these pieces find new homes.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, sat with the work, and shared your interpretations with me. Some of my favorite moments were seeing how deeply the pieces moved people and hearing the personal connections they made.

It’s the last week to see this piece as apart of the group show ‘Untethered Familiars’.

Ayana Gordon presents an image from The Shape of Her, a forthcoming series exploring the beauty and challenges of becoming a woman. Rooted in her own relationships and reflections, the series explores sisterhood, friendship as devotion, romantic relationships, motherhood beyond expectation, and the boundless talents women carry; the work honors transition as both tender and charged.

This image marks the final stage of a woman’s unraveling: a moment after the layers have been shed. The figure is adorned with eccentric details that feel unmistakably her —small artifacts of selfhood. In the mirror, she catches her own gaze and pauses, contemplating what remains when performance falls away, and what it means to choose who you are becoming.

My Love for Soup Joumou | Still life study (2024)

January is a month of resets and renewal for many. For Haitians, it also carries the weight of history. On January 1, 1804, Haiti declared its independence.

To celebrate, Haitians wear yellow and gather for Soup Joumou, a tradition rooted in freedom. No matter where I am, I have always found my way back home on New Year’s Day, slipping into something yellow to welcome luck, unity, and prosperity with my family.

Every year, the soup is hot and ready by the time I walk in around 10am. For a long time, I never paused to consider how much work and care lives inside that pot until one year I was stranded in a snowstorm and decided to make it myself.

Soup Joumou is a labor of pure love. Down to the tiny dumplings my mom makes, just for me. It speaks to the passion and resilience of Haitian people. Something so simple holds so much power.

This still life is my way of honoring the soup, and the hands that make it every year. An expression of love, freedom, and resilience.

Each pot is different, but the message stays the same.

So much of this work was made in community.
I’m extremely grateful for every creative who poured time + talent into my vision, and for every person who uplifted me and my work.

It’s been fulfilling to watch more and more of the seeds I plant start to bloom, and to feel connected to this web of wildly talented artists and makers. I’m excited to water and tend to what I’m building; exploring more, creating boldly, and dreaming bigger.
