The next few weeks are going to move fast but make you feel like you are running uphill.

I know.
I've already graduated one.
We are doing it again in a six weeks.
And we have two more to launch.

Don't allow his senior pictures to be limited to the awkward one captured on the yearbook portrait page that looks like him, but you know it's not really who he is.

He is worthy of being documented in a way that shows who he is right now as he is beginning a new season; no awkwardness, no pressure.

You are worthy of having images of him that tell his story, his place of becoming, and timeless.

As a mom, I know closed-ended questions are conversation killers. If you’ve ever asked your teenager ‘how was your day’ you know what I mean; the word ‘fine’ is a full sentence. As parents, we know wonderful conversations happen when we ask questions that engage conversation.

Talking with your son about senior pictures is one of those that require more listening on your part than talking at him. Ask him what he thinks about them or what he thinks they would be like.

Be honest that you know he’s probably not sure and feels like he has to show up ready to perform. You can’t guarantee his session will be the highlight of his senior year, but you can’t guarantee promise he’ll leave happy he did it.

If you find yourself bribing your son with food to participate in any sort of pictures, you BOTH need me as your photographer.

If we are being honest, senior boys have been trained to “hate” getting photographed. So when it’s time for senior pictures you have to pull out all the stops (bribes, threats, and the ever popular guilt trip).

When I say I get it, I do.

Teen boys are wired differently and need to be photographed in a way that reflects this. Sessions need to be movement-based, relaxed, and no pressure.

No pressure; that’s my not-so-secret approach and how my No Pressure Mini Sessions are structured and why they are perfect for you and your son.

Showing what you look like is NOT the same as showing who you are.

Senior Sessions should be stories; anchoring you to this time of growth and opportunity.

There is no better approach to be photographed than keeping this in mind; the result is authentically you images that matter.

Bring a friend (human or four-legged), an instrument or sports equipment that is your passion, or select a location that has been the setting for your senior year.

This is how you show who you are, not just what you look like.

Let’s be honest, posing tween & teen guys can definitely feel awkward for both them and you!

I get it.

They show up unsure of what to do
Are usually stiff and lack confidence
And more often than they’d like to admit, have no clue what acting natural even means. This is really the reason they begrudgingly show up to family sessions. Facts. Pp

I personally don’t see this as a challenge and these two age groups are my favorite. Why, you ask?!

It’s because I am a boymom and we have spent half our parenting life having tweens & teens with a good bit to go!

These young men need clear direction, simple movement, respectful communication, and space to relax.

When I work with seniors, especially guys, it’s so important for me to make them feel comfortable, confident, and above all: relaxed.

I do this with clear direction and communication, showing them exactly what to do, and giving them a few options to make it ‘feel’ like them.

This allows me to keep the session flowing with a natural feel and allows my seniors to enjoy the process. No need to ask what to do or worry about feeling awkward!

There is truly nothing like a Texas Hill Country evening for a senior session. Not only did the session photograph like a dream, it was a musical gift. When planning my session for singer and songwriter I knew we needed to incorporate as much of his talent as we could.

The bonus to all of this was including his family who are all equally talented. Getting to hear him and his mother sing together was an absolute highlight.
