𝙄𝙉𝙑𝘼𝙎𝙄𝙑𝙀 𝙎𝙋𝙀𝘾𝙄𝙀𝙎 in the The Austin Chronicle!!! Honestly a dream come true to be quoted in the paper saying “Let’s get out of this bitch, together.”

I’m holding my own hand in my painting, transcending to somewhere better, elsewhere, unbeknownst to the viewer but the ethereal me in my painting knows. The ethereal me’s look at the viewer asks, “Don’t you want to come with?” 😏

I like to imagine this ethereal me can be replaced with all of the women in the exhibition/project. We’re off to someplace better, because we decided we can. We believe we can!! 𝙄𝙉𝙑𝘼𝙎𝙄𝙑𝙀 𝙎𝙋𝙀𝘾𝙄𝙀𝙎 will always be about platforming women’s voices, talents, and experiences and I’m SO HAPPY with this iteration!!

On view until Oct 31st! You have to come see it in person it really is a wonderfully curated exhibition (😏) with really GREAT WORK 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽. Thank you at all of my artists and collaborators for making this possible! 🥺🩷🩷🩷🩷

And to Tova Katzman for amazing documentation 📸

🍿SCREENING TONIGHT at hyperreal film club 📼 and kicking off 𝙄𝙉𝙑𝘼𝙎𝙄𝙑𝙀 𝙎𝙋𝙀𝘾𝙄𝙀𝙎 Feminist Horror Week 👉🏼:

🔮7:30 ~ Vexed - Directed by Cassandra Quintela
Director’s description: VEXED is a q***r supernatural comedy short film written and directed by Mexican-American filmmaker Cassandra Quintela. This film is her thesis capstone project. (Cassie will be in attendance selling merch and speaking about her film!)

🩸Followed by: JENNIFER’S BODY
A newly-possessed high-school cheerleader turns into a succubus who specializes in killing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror?
A sprinkle of witchcraft, a dash of q***r yearning, and a kiss that changes everything. Sealed With a Kiss kicks off Feminist Horror Week with Cassandra Quintela’s q***r supernatural comedy short Vexed. When a mysterious new girl joins their circle and asks them to seal a spell with a kiss, their night takes a monstrous turn. Paired with Karyn Kusama’s Jennifer’s Body, the evening moves from yearning to demonic possession, and back to yearning again, exploring the messy bonds between desire, friendship, exploitation, and the body. Written by Diablo Cody, Jennifer’s Body turns the horror genre back on the systems that objectify young women, asking what happens when the girls who are supposed to be victims become something else entirely.

Join Alexis Hunter and Faiza Kracheni as the INVASIVE SPECIES 2 invasion creeps into film with an opening night of feminist horror filled with crushes, dark magic, and carnage!

🗣️ “Honey wake up there’s EVEN MORE 𝙄𝙉𝙑𝘼𝙎𝙄𝙑𝙀 𝙎𝙋𝙀𝘾𝙄𝙀𝙎 programming happening?!!” 👉🏼 As INVASIVE SPECIES 2 expands beyond the gallery and into literature, this evening brings together writers and artists whose practices explore identity, survival, womanhood, and the complicated ways we move through the worlds around us!

🎤 Moderated by Annar Veröld-Miranda, a Honduran-American artist and the publisher of the small, women-led press Host Publications, the conversation will feature Jasmine Games, Julie Poole, and Katy Horan. The panel will engage with themes from the exhibition and consider how identity, lived experience, and the body inform writing and art. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽

The conversation will include readings from each panelist, followed by an open mic for members of the community to share their own work. BookWoman will also join the evening with a pop-up bookstore, offering a curated selection of books and merchandise for attendees to browse and purchase! 📚

ℹ️ Accessibility Info: Future Front is fully accessible for wheelchairs and has appropriately sized bathrooms. Tactile graphics created in partnership with the Clovernook Center for the Blind will be available to support blind and visually impaired visitors in experiencing the exhibition.

🍪 Treats by Zucchini Kill Bakery — a woman-owned bakery offering vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free treats in 100% compostable packaging. Named in homage to Bikini Kill and the feminist punk pioneers who came before them, Zucchini Kill brings feminist community, creativity, and a little delicious disruption to the evening.

The original INVASIVE SPECIES was curated by myself and Jacqueline Overby in 2023. What began as a group exhibition has grown into a network of more than 25 women artists, writers, filmmakers, and cultural workers across Central, Southeast Texas, and more. I am BEYOND GRATEFUL!!!!!

⚠️Warning: These Invasive Species have been identified as posing an immediate threat to men’s economy, environment, and well-being. If you encounter any of these species in a male-dominated ecosystem, please do NOT resist the invasion. It is inevitable, and resistance is futile.
