With the repetition of load in and load out, we sometimes forget the impact we ourselves have in the rooms that we enter. This past project brought us to Burgess-Peterson Academy. The academy has a unique focus on teaching reading through phonics. The story followed various teachers who talked about the importance of reading and reminders of a past when anti-literacy laws were a form of oppression. Reading is a privilege. Just like the opportunity we have every day to pursue our dreams. The students surprised our crew with thank you letters on our last day of filming, reminding us that even the smallest of ripples can have a meaningful impact.
