I always experience some version of a "first" filming a birth--and this one takes the cake: First birth where the laboring woman was cracking jokes in between pushes. What a rockstar!

I'm always in awe of women who choose home birth for their first baby. It takes guts to face the unknown, and Alexis and her husband faced it with such grace.

Get your tissues ready for when dad gets a good look at his son for the first time. 😭

I have been waiting to share this beautiful video for so long! It tells the birth story of a woman who I would have described as a colleague or acquaintance before, but who (after this experience), I now call FRIEND.

It’s the story of how birth doesn’t always go as we plan, but the resilience of women to literally PUSH through unforeseen obstacles and bring life into the world despite them.

It’s the testimony of women supporting women. Grandmothers, great grandmothers, aunts, midwives, and daughters—they all come together to encourage and sometimes literally hold up a woman going through the most physically taxing event of this life.

It’s also (EEEK!!) the first video I’ve done in collaboration with Mama Sing My Song—who wrote and performed the beautiful music and lyrics.

I say it all the time, but I LOVE what I do.

God tends to work in ironic ways.

In the Bible, he takes the most unlikely of people and gives them jobs no person would ever assign to them.

And for the most physically tasking performance on earth--giving birth--he didn't choose the physically stronger man.

He chose woman.

Some may see childbearing as a curse, but the love that blossoms from bringing life into the world is the most beautiful blessing of all. ✨
