architecture_hunter: Rooted in Ukrainian vernacular traditions, Under the Reed Roof Guesthouses by YOD Group reinterpret the archetype of the rural mazanka through a contemporary lens.
Set within a private estate in central Ukraine, the project transforms the symbolic elements of the whitewashed house and thatched roof into a refined architectural statement defined by transparency and sculptural presence.
A generous reed roof - oversized and expressive - becomes the project’s defining gesture, hovering above fully glazed façades that dissolve the boundary between interior and landscape. Inside, a compact concrete core anchors the layout, separating the bedroom and living area while concealing services and maintaining visual clarity. A minimalist fireplace subtly references the traditional Ukrainian stove, reinforcing the atmosphere of retreat and contemplation.
