Peter Bogdanovich stood on the shoulders of giants like Orson Welles and John Ford, but came to express the art of cinema in his own unique way. Seeing a screening of "The Last Picture Show" in college affected me in a way that is still hard to explain.

He made a splash early in his career with 'The Last Picture Show,' 'What's Up, Doc?' and 'Paper Moon' and served as a surrogate film professor for a generation.

"In my experience, if you're a DP and you get it 90% of the way there, you've won. Everyone congratulates you, you're totally there - but you know in the back of your head, if I just had a little bit more time, or we just did one more take, I could fix this thing and I could get the other 8%.
