Exciting news! One of my photos was selected to be printed in a magazine! Proud to be featured with other amazing photographers who are chronicling these weird times. And since our district just announced the beginning of school will be entirely virtual, our kitchen table will soon look like this again. Sigh...

I've been pretty quiet here on my business page. Obviously, I haven't been shooting, and have had to cancel the sessions I had booked. Just like you, I'm at home with my kids, doing distance learning and trying not to pull my hair out. I hope whether you're the super-mom with a color-coded schedule, the free-range mom who lets her kids do their own thing, or the mom who's just trying to hold it all together, that you are documenting it all. This will be a huge turning point in history, and no matter what the age of your kids, they'll want to look back on what it was like. So get out your phone and snap some pictures of them wearing their masks, building their forts, struggling with their worksheets and putting together those puzzles. It will matter someday.

I swore that I was going to stop posting sneak peeks until after I'd shown the entire gallery to my clients. But earlier this week, this mom posted on Facebook that her kids both had pink eye. Again. So thought this was an appropriate way to say "hang in there." Because capturing memories isn't just about the fun stuff. It's about parenting - in sickness and in health.

What a fun project. It reminds me of the anticipation of getting photos back from the developer. And I love this quote by Kristen Bell:

"It made me reflect on the imperative we place on immediacy in today’s culture and the habitual desire to capture our ‘best’ selves. This project reminded me that it’s actually the small, non-filtered moments that make up our ‘best’ self.”

That's exactly what documentary photography is all about!

My albums If you’re old enough, you probably remember getting a roll of film developed and then sticking each photo into the sleeve of a photo album. Those albums sat on the shelf in our house, and I could pull them out and look at them any time. That’s why I love albums. They remind me of a time when we valued photos enough to print them out and actually go back and look at them regularly. [ 368 more words ]

The photo albums of the past have gone away, but it is still so important to have photo books. I can help you design one for your family!

I've added a new line item to my business expenses - SOCKS. When I shoot at a client's home, I crawl all over furniture and counters, but my socks were always dirty or had dog hair on them. I recently bought a whole package of socks, just for shoots. I change into brand-new socks right before every shoot, so when I kick off my shoes and crawl on your shiny kitchen counter, you won't be disgusted!
