I nannied for a family for 5 years. One day during the pandemic, I brought the kids to my house, and there were Mimosa flowers all over the ground and in the trees. The little girl picked a flower off the ground and I told her what it was called. On our way back to her house, her recollection of the name was "a kimosa!!!" Why is this exciting and relevant? Children remember things based on their experiences. I could have corrected the girl, but I let it be. She had chosen kimosa because in her brilliant mind, we were at my husbands house (whose name is Kevin).
So now, she associates the Mimosa (or Kimosa in her words), with Kevin's house). There is so much we can learn from children if only we stop, observe and ask them questions.
