Recent musings… Went to the High Museum of Art last night, and after viewing a portrait exhibit, the question that resonated with me was “At what point does photography become art?”
Is it the effort that put into the staging?
Is it the intention with which the photographer takes the image?
Is simply wanting to create something beautiful enough of a justification to label something as art?
Or is it a culmination of multiple things?
With the rise of AI, and more importantly, a camera in almost everyone’s pocket, where do we draw this line and assess the value of a moment captured in time?
I haven’t decided on the answer to that question personally yet, but what I do know is that my goal when commissioned is always to make my subjects see themselves the way those that love them get to see them all the time - Multifaceted, radiant, and beautiful.
What do you guys think? In this world where we’re inundated with imagery, what makes a photograph art?
