Sue Was Here - Nature Photography and Giftbooks What I love most about nature photography is being able to share those moments that not only capture Nature offers so many lessons if we're open to them.

For me, whether in a friend's backyard, a botanical garden, or out in the woods, life changes at a moment's notice. My goal is not only to be in the moment, but share it with others. While my images are available individually, I also self-published A Moment's Notice http://www.bookcreate.com/work/self-publishers/a-moments-notice/index.html. The fun continues on into Atlanta - here's where I'll be Thursday evening. The adventure started here in Atlanta so Thursday is particularly meaningful for me!

By the way, if you're looking for a cool Mother's Day or graduation gift, this might be a great way to fill the bill!

Comprised of pieces about gratitude, patience, presence, and other meditations inspired by mountain nature, A Moment’s Notice is at once a nature guide to the southern mountain region and a meditation on what it means to exist in the world. Sue casts her well-trained eye on Southern Appalachian wild...

Well, the stream cleanup in Nasville this morning got cancelled, but I will still be celebrating Earth Day this afternoon at Parnassus Books, starting at 2. I'll be sharing my favorite nature images, talking about my adventures in A Moment's Notice and offering a postcard with each purchase, perfect to use in sending a note to legislators about protecting the environment.

Hope to see you there!

Hopefully, you not only get to meet me, which is generally thought of as being fairly cool, but get to meet Lewis as well. It's the perfect two-fer!

We, the shop dogs of Parnassus Books, would like to highlight one of the services we offer visiting authors: friendly canine companionship!

I know - it's been forever since I've posted on this page. It's been hard to figure out what I want to post here but my newest book seems a great way to start.

I'll be in Nashville Saturday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. at Parnassus Books to sign my newest Book A Moment's Notice. If you want to check it out, please click on the attached link that will send you to a smaller version. Folks who have purchased it call it an inspirational gift book - great for folks who love nature, for folks who need inspiration, for folks who need a hug, for folks who are celebrating... lots of cool pics from my adventures with nature along with little mini essays talking about the wisdom nature has gifted me with. It's been an awesome ride.

I was going to call this album "anatomy of a sunrise", and then I thought, no, that's far too scientific. My eyes opened wide the moment I saw that first splash of red. I hoped my opening the patio door didn't wake my host, but I knew she'd understand if by chance I did. I could have taken a shot or two and walked inside, particularly because it was rather chilly yesterday morning just standing there. But I was glued to the spot, wondering how it would all shift in the coming moments. And I guess I wanted to pay tribute to the morning's glory. Although there are many places I'd like to see, I don't have a bucket list. I simply want to make the most of where I am when I'm there. Because even a friend's backyard can be a magical place. I imagine there is a poem to be written here, although I haven't sat down to figure that out yet. I imagine, too, there's probably a great set of gift cards. As for those last few photos, oh, how the sky shifted shortly after sunrise, the rays of light peaking through the clouds that had drifted in. Like I said, magic!

It's nice to get an e-card, but there's something so special about getting a real card in the mail. I'm doing a little spring cleaning and offering my white framed photo cards for $2.50 each plus shipping/handling. I've also got a number of full framed cards available for $3 each. There are also a few other dribs and drabs of images I can share if you're interested. And then I've shown a few other images that make for great cards and I am happy to place an order. Prices have changed a bit and will be based on quantity ordered. By all means mix and match and/or send me a note at [email protected] to order images not shown in this post. Flowers, sunsets, butterflies, etc. A lot of folks tell me they actually frame them rather than send them. Others tell me they get a wonderful response from the recipient when they do send them. I leave that up to you!

A little canvas and print sale. The brand new high quality canvases are 16 x 20. People often confuse my canvases for paintings. The framed piece was actually one that I just rotated off my wall and would love to let someone else enjoy for a while. Given the reflection in the frame, I posted the image itself, too. It was a fabulous spring day in Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest - I had never seen so much color along the forest floor. With the frame it's a little over 26w x a little over 20h. If you're interested, send me an email at [email protected].

Whether you're thinking about Valentines Day or just thinking about gifts for friends or family, I've got a great gift idea that will delight whomever you give it to and help this fledgling artist get her expenses paid. Walk with Me: Exploring Nature's Wisdom usually sells for $14.95. For the next few days, I'm offering it for $11.50 plus $6.50 shipping/handling (on FB only. If you're in Asheville, we can meet for pickup rather than charging postage.) Paste the link to scroll through this simple but meaningful gift book. Some readers have told me it's just what their soul needed. One gal bought it for her adult sons to share life lessons through nature. Some people have been given it as gifts and then turned around to order multiple additional copies to give as gifts to their friends. Those are happy email trails. Others said they've needed the reminders and open to different pages on a daily basis. I think you'll find it a gift that shows you care, whether for yourself or a lucky recipient. Buy extras so you can have them on hand when just the right gift is needed. Payment preferred by credit card (I've got the Square) or PayPal ([email protected]). If you're interested, simply message me or email me at [email protected]. I do appreciate you!!!! The gift you purchase is as much a gift to me. http://www.lookbookpress.com/examples/self-publishing/walk-with-me/index.html.

When I first started paying attention to wildflowers, the only way I noticed them was when they were in full bloom. In fact, I bought a book that told me about peak blossom time on various trails. And so I'd go here once and there once. I started doing one trail regularly when I'd come into Asheville because my time was limited and I just needed a little walk. That's when I started noticing what was about to bloom. I got this shy, tentative, and even sometimes goofy sense. I was amazed by how beautiful they were even though they'd not quite bloomed. Knowing their surroundings and the sometimes harsh weather, I'm even more amazed at how they still manage to blossom. Lesson for me for sure. At any rate, now I have several favorite trails that I wander regularly. I no longer find myself saying "oh, come on, hurry up and bloom," because it will all happen when it's going to happen.
