Day 5 of the challenge.
As this challenge comes to a close, I’ve found myself reflecting a lot on the past week’s material and what all this means for me now. On the first day, I wrote that coming into college I didn’t know where to start regarding my career in film and photography. But now, I do.
The final lesson of the week covered how to attract clients and keep them coming back. At the core of it all is understanding that by hiring you, the client is taking a risk. It’s my job as a creator to minimize that risk for the client. That comes from becoming a safe option for them. A safe option is someone who’s likeable, dependable, and someone who lives in integrity. Without these qualities, clients cannot and will not come to trust you and take that risk.
On top of having a good working relationship during the job you’re hired for, it’s important to continue building that relationship. DON’T let that connection drop after the one job. Reach out to them again, follow up, and show them you still care. That they’re not just a paycheck. This allows you to build a genuine friendship, causes you to stand out in their eyes, and even leads to more future jobs and referrals. And the best part is making friends and having fun while doing it.
At the end of the day, this week can be summed up by two words. Systems and Processes. Having these two things in place is the key to starting, running, and leading a successful business. By having specific systems and processes planned out and implemented, you know what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and where it’s all supposed to lead.
Don’t just think of yourself as a freelancer looking for the next gig. You are a business. Think that way. Plan that way. Live that way.
This week has been full of lessons that have changed the way I think and have helped me get a better idea of how and where to focus my life during this pivotal chapter in my life. A big thanks to for providing this resource for people like me, and also to everyone who’s supported me thusfar, engaging with my content, reading through these captions, and just all the general support and encouragement overall. You’re the real ones.
