During the 1864-65 siege of Petersburg VA, Violet Bank was General Robert E. Lee's headquarters and while he was sitting astride his war horse, Traveller, heard the cataclysmic explosion of the now infamous "Crater" at the Petersburg battlefield a few miles away.....
