*warning, long post ahead*
Being a photographer myself, I’m usually the one behind the camera capturing the memories — not always the one in them. Most of the time, if we want a family photo, I’m setting up a tripod or asking a family friend to grab a few quick shots of us. And while those are always special, there’s something completely different about stepping into the moment and letting someone else take care of the rest. Because moms deserve to be in the photos too.
Last night in Arizona we had the joy of having our photos taken by the incredibly talented April from logosandvine.photo From the moment we met her, she felt like someone we’d known forever — warm, personable, and the kind of photographer who makes everyone feel comfortable right away.
While April was posing Blake and I, I looked over her shoulder and saw something that will forever be locked in my memory bank. Cameron, April’s husband, had the kids. Faith was sitting on his lap, completely captivated by a book he had propped open in one arm. In his other hand was a bag of mini marshmallows, and every so often he’d toss one up into the air and catch it perfectly in his mouth — all while entertaining Garth, who stood right next to him thinking Cameron was the coolest person ever.
And right there I realized what was really happening — my kids were happy and cared for, Blake and I were getting photos together, and for once mom was actually in the pictures too.
As a photographer, I know beautiful photos matter. But moments like this remind me that the best photographers don’t just take pictures — they create an experience that families will remember forever.
If you’re ever traveling or going on vacation, I highly recommend hiring a photographer wherever you go. You will never regret having those everlasting memories captured.
And in my opinion… April is one of the best. 🤍
Because someday my kids won’t care how the photo was taken… they’ll just be grateful that mom was in it.
