I had to hop on this trend! Almost exactly one year ago, I lost a job that I dearly loved. I won’t lie and say I didn’t want to wish ill will on the people that made that happen, but I knew it was for the best. That job had worn me thin. I was constantly anxious and depressed due to my working conditions.

So… I went home that day, had a margarita with a coworker, and wrote an email to my husband about it. (He was on an aircraft carrier in the middle of the ocean at the time.) I knew I had to come up with a game plan…

A few days later, I thought, “Why not pull out my old Canon Rebel from high school/college and make money taking photos?” I was rusty, but it was worth a shot! I was blessed with several good friends and family that let me take portraits for them, and I suddenly felt whole again. I loved capturing the beauty of family, friendship, and milestones. I felt a calling to this.

One year later, I’m far from where I want to be still, but the journey I’ve taken so far has been nothing short of incredible. I have many people to thank for my growth and success so far, but the most important is The Big Man upstairs.

If I have any advice to give from my experience this year, it’s surrender. Surrender your plans, your anxieties, your anger, your love, all of it to Him. Because He will give you the opportunity and the tools to do far greater things and be a far greater person than you could ever imagine.

Ride. Roam. Remember.
