Season is ramping up quickly and things are getting good in the deer woods! If you’re fortunate enough to be successful and need a place to take care of the processing, we’re open and accepting deer! It’s been a great start to the season so far, and we’re excited for it to keep getting better!

I would appreciate a call or text this time of year before bringing a deer, just so I can make sure someone is here to take it!

Good luck everyone! 🏹🦌

Four years.

Four years without tagging a buck in Pennsylvania. Now, in back-to-back years, I’ve been blessed to tag my two biggest bucks to date. Both deer I had history with.

I’d love to say there was some elaborate strategy behind this one, but there wasn’t. I only had a handful of pictures of him this year and didn’t think I was in the game yet.

With a cold front moving in, I decided to hunt a ridgetop scrape this buck had used for years. By 8:30, the wind was ripping, snow was flying, and I was freezing. With deer waiting at the shop, I decided to get down early and check cameras.

That decision changed everything.

Walking out, I spotted a deer about 50 yards away. When I saw his head, I couldn’t believe it. I grabbed my phone to film him, never expecting an opportunity.

Then he turned and walked right toward me.

Caught in the open, I crawled to a small tree for cover. I scrambled for my rangefinder, breaking the harness strap, and prepared for a 30-yard shot.

I drew and waited. He stopped short and had me busted, but I still had a window.

I settled my pin and released.

At that exact moment, he turned to run. By nothing short of God’s grace, he turned directly into my arrow. What began as a broadside shot became a frontal shot. Had he turned the other way, I’d have missed completely.

He dropped in his tracks. The shot was fatal, but out of respect for the animal, I made a follow-up shot to end things quickly. It wasn’t where I intended to hit him, but it’s a reminder of how quickly things can change in bowhunting.

All that to say, I got lucky.

When I needed it most, the Good Lord reminded me He’s still there. This is my biggest buck to date, and I may never take another 8-point of this caliber.

It’s bittersweet to close the chapter on a deer you’ve known for years. My respect for these animals and God’s creation is something I’ll never fully put into words.

Thank you, Lord, and thank you to everyone who’s supported me.

Thank God for making me a hunter. 🙏🦌

Ecclesiastes 4:12

“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

Still in utter disbelief about today. The full story and pictures will be posted tomorrow.

Blessed is an understatement.

Finished out the youth weekend strong at last light with my little brother Mason hammering a big doe!

These hunts just never get old. Another one on film too, so I’ve got some editing to do!

Congrats buddy, I always am proud to see you develop as a hunter and I’m glad you let me be a part of all of the success!

🦌 A FIRST BUCK, A SECOND CHANCE, AND MEMORIES THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME! 🦌

What an incredible weekend for the Jason Reisman Youth Hunting Program!

This year, we had the opportunity to take young Briggs into the woods, and what a hunt it turned out to be!

Briggs got to experience firsthand the highs and lows that come with hunting. After getting an opportunity at a beautiful buck and unfortunately missing his first shot, he was faced with something every hunter experiences at some point — disappointment. But as we all know, you never know what might happen in the deer woods! A little while later, that exact same buck stepped back out, giving Briggs a second opportunity. This time, he made it count!

And to make the moment even more special, his mom, Bethany, was right there with us to experience it all! There’s something pretty incredible about watching a young hunter harvest his first buck, but being able to share that excitement with his mom made the experience that much more memorable.

The excitement, emotions, and memories made during this hunt are exactly why we started this program. And the best part? We captured the entire experience on film! We’ll be putting together a video of the hunt to share with everyone in the near future, so stay tuned!

For those unfamiliar with the Jason Reisman Youth Hunting Program, this is something that Find A Way Outdoors and Belmont Archery originally came together to create. Our goal has always been to introduce the next generation to the outdoors, provide opportunities for young hunters, and pass along the traditions and values that make hunting so special.

This year, we were fortunate enough to welcome Ned’s Creekside Taxidermy into the program! They generously offered to donate a shoulder mount for our successful youth hunter, meaning Briggs will have a beautiful mount of his very first buck to remember this experience for years to come!

Belmont Archery generously provided the property for us to hunt, Ned’s Creekside Taxidermy donated the shoulder mount, and Find A Way Outdoors will be processing Briggs’ deer so he and his family can enjoy the harvest. We also put together an awesome goodie package filled with customized merchandise from all of us, along with a brand-new pair of Hawke binoculars!

While harvesting a deer is always exciting, this program is about so much more than filling a tag. It’s about mentorship, sportsmanship, conservation, learning from both successes and setbacks, and creating opportunities that these young hunters might not otherwise have.

Watching Briggs go from the disappointment of a missed opportunity to the excitement of harvesting his very first buck is something none of us will soon forget. Having Bethany there to share in those moments made it even better!

A huge congratulations to Briggs on an incredible first buck, and a special thank-you to his mom, Bethany, for spending the weekend with us! We’re so glad you both got to be part of this experience, and we couldn’t be happier for you!

We also want to extend a sincere thank-you to everyone who has supported this program and helped us continue building something that means so much to all of us. We hope to continue growing the Jason Reisman Youth Hunting Program and providing these opportunities to more young hunters in the years ahead. Until next time! 🦌
