A little past 9pm tonight, Engine-11 was dispatched to the area of the Glenn & ER Loop after multiple callers reported heavy black smoke in the area. After a short investigation, a 100x100 fire was located inside the Anchorage Regional Landfill. Additional resources were requested shortly after and arrived in the form of a tender from Anchorage (14), Eagle River(11), & Chugiak(35), along with Squad-11. Battalion-1 responded as well. With the assistance of SWS, the fire was brought under control within 90 minutes and AFD was clear just before 11. Definitely some all time favorites with the rainbow, Station 11 guys reach out if you want any of these to print 🙂

AFD is battling a fire at the regional landfill near Hiland Exit. Heavy smoke is visible in the area.

A little before 6 this morning, AFD was dispatched to a reported commercial structure fire at Van's Dive Bar on 5th Ave. Battalion-1 was in the area, and after a quick investigation, located a burning gas meter on the rear of the structure. Engine-1 pulled a line to the front and rear of the structure to protect it from the fire and frequently checked the interior for extension. Due to the line being compromised below the meter, crews were forced to let the gas continue to burn off until Enstar could arrive and shut off the gas from underground. It burned for nearly 2 hours before the fire was called under control around 7:40. The full structure assignment responded, but was held to Station-1 crews.

Gas-fed fire at a compromised gas line - Vans Dive Bar on 5th. Enstar has arrived on location and is devising a plan to shut down the gas. AFD is periodically cooling the building to prevent the fire from spreading.

Took a short vacation and we’re right back into it. AFD is on location of a compromised gas line at Van’s Dive Bar on 5th. Awaiting the arrival of the gas company to shut down the line.

Engine-6 was dispatched to a reported outside fire tonight in the area of the Ira Walker Park on 6th Avenue. They arrived within a few minutes and found an approximately 10x10 area within a homeless camp burning. A pantless individual was sitting in the woods a few yards from the blaze. Also on location were at least 10 children, who were likely playing in the area of the public playground less than 50 yards from the fire and extensive camp. The individual fled the area after being contacted by Engine-6's crew. The fire was extinguished quickly and AFD cleared without incident.
