1952 CESSNA 170B on final at sunset to Billing Logan International Airport in Billing Montana.
The Cessna 170 is the predecessor to the Cessna 172 which is the most produced aircraft in history. It also was used by the US military as the O-1 Birddog which was used for forward air control and reconnaissance.

1968 172K on Floats, It was a lot of fun to watch this plane give rides for a few hours, a lot of takeoffs, and landings.
The Cessna 172 is the most successful aircraft in history, with over 44,000 built and growing since it is still being produced to this day.

If you want a good read, look us some information about the 172 N9172B which flew over 64 days, and 150,000 miles without landing setting the world record for (refueled) flight endurance.

The Space Shuttle Discovery made more then 30 successful missions over the length of its career. Making it the most flown orbiter in Nasa's fleet.
Before visiting the Discovery on display at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC I had no concept of just how enormous the space shuttles were.
Its amazing to think that something that size designed in the 70s, and built in the 80s with less computing power and memory storage then a Nokia flip phone was able to be strapped to a giant fuel tank and a couple extra boosters and blast into space only to turn around and glide back to earth to make an unpowered landing.

The shuttle program sadly got nowhere near the design goals of 50 flights per vehicle per year averaging closer to 4 flights per year and overshot the estimated $450 million per launch by almost triple costing about $1.3 billion per launch. It was also the most deadly space craft in history with 2 of the 5 shuttles sadly having tragic ends. A 40% vehicle loss rate, and ballooning costs it is no surprise that the shuttle program was ended in 2010.

This is the AFTI NF-16A. Its a highly modified F-16 fighter used for more then 20 years as a test bed for inovations in flight controls, electronic targeting, and cockpit design.
One of the NF-16A's most significant uses was to pioneer the use of all electric "power by wire" flight control systems.

This particular plane was retired in 2001 when it was moved to the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton Ohio.

this is the Cessna O-2, the Military version of the Cessna Skymaster. I have always been intrigued by this plane since I was a kid. I am not sure if its the dual centerline engines or the unique tail design, but I have always been a fan.

1958 PIPER PA-18 Super Cub on floats. The super cub first flew in 1949, and around 15,000 have been built. The PA-18 has a very dedicated community, and many modifications are available for the plane. So much that it is extremely rare to find a stock un modified Super Cub anymore. Renowned for its ability to takeoff and land in very short distances the Super Cub has been a favorite of bush pilots around the world.

The First flight of a Douglas DC-3 was in 1935, its a testament to the design and its ability to use short grass and dirt strips that some 86 years later there are still operators flying the DC-3 for passenger and freight service.
A common saying among aviation enthusiasts and pilots is "the only replacement for a DC-3 is another DC-3".

This is a beautifully maintained American Airlines DC-3 at sunset in Oshkosh.
