With a heavy heart, but also with hope for what comes next… ❤️

I’ve rewritten this post more times than I can count, because honestly, I never imagined I would have to write it.
After several months of thinking, praying, reflecting, and trying to figure out what the right decision was, I have made the very difficult decision to close my photography business.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will no longer be working in the portrait photography world. And saying that out loud is incredibly hard.

Photography became such a meaningful part of my life. It wasn’t just about picking up a camera and taking pictures. It was about the people I met, the stories I was trusted to tell, the laughter, the tears, the milestones, the families, the little moments, and all of the memories I was fortunate enough to preserve.

To every single person who ever stepped in front of my camera — thank you. ❤️
Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for allowing me into some of the most important and personal moments of your lives. Thank you for believing that I could take something you would treasure forever and turn it into a memory you could hold onto. I will never take that trust for granted.

And to the people who supported me throughout this entire journey — the ones who booked with me, recommended me, shared my work, encouraged me, checked on me, celebrated my successes, and continued to believe in me even when things weren’t easy — I hope you know just how much that meant to me. You weren’t just supporting a business. You were supporting me.

This chapter has given me memories, friendships, lessons, challenges, growth, and so many moments that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. For all of that, I am incredibly grateful.

Walking away from portrait photography is not something I wanted to do, and it certainly wasn’t an easy decision. But sometimes life takes us in directions we never expected. And maybe that’s okay.

They say, “When one door closes, another one opens.”

So, I’m choosing to believe that.

I’m closing this door with gratitude for everything behind it, but I’m also looking forward to the door that’s waiting ahead.

My love for photography, creativity, and this industry isn’t going away. I’ll simply be taking those talents somewhere new. There are still things I want to create, dreams I want to pursue, and chapters I haven’t written yet.

This isn’t goodbye to creativity.
This isn’t goodbye to the industry.
It’s simply goodbye to one chapter.

And when I’m ready, I’ll open the next door. 🚪✨

To everyone who has been part of this journey — thank you from the deepest part of my heart. You helped make this chapter something I’ll never forget.

I may be putting the camera down for portraits, but I’ll always be grateful for the memories it helped me create.

✨This portrait is a perfect example of why I always start by seeing the light before reaching for the flash.

The foundation of this image was the beautiful ambient light already present at the location. The open shade created soft, flattering illumination while preserving the warmth and texture of the wooden backdrop. Rather than overpowering that natural light, I used it as the base exposure.

To add another layer of visual interest, I composed the image by shooting through the branches of a nearby crepe myrtle tree. That natural foreground helped frame the subject, added depth, and created a more immersive composition.

From there, I introduced a single off-camera flash positioned to complement the existing light. The flash added subtle direction, gentle contrast, and just enough separation to bring the subject forward without looking artificial. The goal wasn’t to make it obvious that flash was used—it was to enhance what nature had already provided.

Many of the lighting principles used in creating this portrait were inspired by the techniques taught by Roberto Valenzuela Photographer in Picture Perfect Flash and Picture Perfect Lighting. Those resources have been invaluable in learning how to blend ambient light and flash in a way that looks intentional, natural, and polished.

The final image is a balance of two light sources working together: ambient light providing the mood and atmosphere, with off-camera flash adding depth, dimension, and a refined finish.

Photography isn’t about choosing between natural light or flash—it’s about understanding how each can contribute to telling the story.

I wish that’s all it was.

You don’t see the late nights staring at a screen, trying to perfect someone’s memories.
You don’t see the self-doubt after a shoot, wondering if you did enough.
You don’t see the years it took to understand light, people, and moments that can never be recreated.

You don’t see the money poured into gear, the time spent learning, the sacrifices made to chase something creative in a world that doesn’t always take it seriously.

You don’t see the pressure of capturing moments that matter—moments that people will hold onto for the rest of their lives.

There are moments I don’t talk about enough—the ones that stay with me long after I’ve put my camera down.

The quiet glances between parents who have built a life together. The way a child reaches for your hand without thinking. The laughter that fills the space and the tears that come without apology. I get to witness all of it… and somehow, you trust me to hold onto it for you.

That trust is something I carry with so much care.

These aren’t just sessions to me. They’re pieces of your story—chapters of your life that deserve to be remembered exactly as they felt. And the truth is, they change me too. Every family, every couple, every moment leaves something behind with me.

So this is more than a thank you.
