Along the intertidal line at Saint Augustine Beach, the terns and a few scattered seagulls stand oriented to the onshore breeze, their mirrored forms trembling in the wet sand — a brief, living diagram of coastal rhythm.

I was nominated by .my.flash.photography.22 Day 1 of 1, of something that makes me Happy.

Teaching my grandchildren to grow organically (blackberries in this case) and pick when ripe! Brings back childhood memories!

Can you do a handstand?

A male blue dasher dragonfly, known by the powder‑blue body, big greenish eyes, and clear wings. It’s resting on a banana leaf in a classic “stay cool” pose that dragonflies use to manage the Florida heat.

A tiny branch‑top sentinel blending perfectly into its world — scales, wood grain, and Florida greens all humming in the same quiet frequency. A still moment, a steady gaze, and a lizard that knows exactly how invisible it is.

A small brown anole displaying substrate‑matched camouflage while perched on a cut branch, using stillness and dorsal patterning to reduce visual detection.

Gerbera Daisy

Soft white petals drifting toward the light, while the dried ones whisper the story of everything this bloom has survived. A little dream, a little decay, all of it beautiful.

My grandaughter found this one for me it the center web is about the size of a dime!

A juvenile Argiope hangs in perfect suspension, its body aligned with the tension map of its web.
The stabilimentum glows like a spectral signature — a UV‑reflective beacon that insects perceive as floral structure.
Wind moves through the grass, but the spider remains motionless, tuned to the micro‑vibrations that reveal the physics of prey movement.

This spider shows the classic traits of a juvenile Argiope orb‑weaver — likely Argiope trifasciata (banded garden spider) or Argiope aurantia (yellow garden spider).
Key indicators:

Stabilimentum — the zigzag or tufted silk structure is characteristic of Argiope species.

Hub posture — legs splayed symmetrically, typical of orb‑weavers monitoring web vibrations.

Web architecture — evenly spaced radial lines and tight spiral capture silk.

Juvenile morphology — smaller body size, less defined abdominal patterning.

This is a non‑aggressive, diurnal orb‑weaver common in Florida grasslands and coastal vegetation.

The black swallowtail — a small miracle of geometry and color.
Its wings catch the light like stained glass, resting on fern lace.
Sometimes nature composes the perfect frame before we even press the shutter.

Eastern Black Swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes) displaying dorsal wing patterning: melanic forewings, structural blue hindwing iridescence, and orange ocelli used in predator distraction. Resting posture on fern substrate suggests low‑intensity thermoregulation.
