Inspiration. Reimagining one’s dreaming happens in uncomfortable situations. The solution comes from an unfamiliar environment, when one has exhausted all known possibilities. Memory is unlocked, and the child steps out bathed in glowing green. A multidimensional world is within grasp, beyond Color, lines and space. They move with so much intensity through life… my people. You can’t stop thinking of them. I am making portraits (while in the background collecting the things that people leave behind, the things they abandon for new things) This creative process leads vigorously in making new spaces for people to show up. That is the easy way out. But the more important thing is to fit them in old spaces, in their origins, where they begin. Express joy. Nothing is in vain.

In 1996, myself, Sukanthy Visagaperumal, Stanley Aneto and Anaele Iroh had an art exhibition at Margaret Ekpo Ref, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Titled A Strangled Song, we showed paintings, poems and drawings. I have never felt so proud to design a catalog as I did with this. Each catalog cover was handmade. It is Africa. We had nothing, we made everything.
