Fundraiser Story:
My name is Andrew Munuwa. I am a Tanzanian photographer, cultural organiser, and founder of The Dar Foto Festival - Tanzania’s premier photography festival. My work has focused on telling the story of urban life in Tanzania and creating a contemporary archive.
Over the past years, I have dedicated myself to building photography communities and developing socially engaged artistic projects, including my current research, “NO CONSENT, NO PHOTO,” which examines image ethics, archives, and representation between Africa and Europe.
Since the last election, I have been forced to flee my home following threats from unidentified armed individuals. Trusted sources have confirmed that these intimidation tactics are tied to my photography practice and public work.
The impact of these threats has been devastating to my mental and physical well-being. Without stable housing, I have been unable to rebuild my life. I have lost access to my photography equipment, physical archive, and digital files - making it impossible to earn a living.
