ultural backgrounds not only in the Arab, but also in the Western world. This gives him a high degree of flexibility and allows him to work in countries all over the world. As a Tunisian citizen, he experienced two successive dictatorships. The start of the Tunisian revolution in 2011, that marked the beginning of the Arab spring, was a key experience in his life. It increased his always existing thirst for freedom of speech in a significant way whenever he saw pictures and footage in connection with the start of the political transition from dictatorship to democracy in Tunisia and the entire Arab world. Within this time, Chedly Ben Ibrahim realized that a powerful, expressive photograph has a huge potential to make a change and that marked the beginning of his career as a photojournalist. Originally he’s holding a master’s degree in accounting, and was managing his own accounting and auditing firm, but guided by his instinct as well as the strong desire to become an active witness and a part of the change within Tunisia and the entire Arab world, he bought his very first camera and started working in the field of photojournalism. He sent his firt reportage to DEMOTIX. At that time DEMOTIX was a freedom of speech platform for photojournalists all over the world and formed part of Bill Gates’ Corbis Corporation which was sold in 2016 to the Visual China Group. He has covered all important events in connection with Tunisia’s democratic transition such as the assault on the U.S. Embassy in Tunis, the terrorist attacks that hit Tunisia especially in 2015, the National Dialogue in Tunisia, the assassination of Tunisian political opponents and their aftermaths, the sit-in of Bardo, the Presidential and Parliamentary Tunisian Elections as well as lots of other relevant events. As a freelancer, Chedly Ben Ibrahim signed contracts with Wostok Press, SIPA USA, Getty Images, NurPhoto Agency and the collective Hans Lucas. He also worked on assignment for The Wall Street Journal (USA), Libération newspaper (France), l’Humanité, La Croix, Bloomberg, The Mail On Sunday (UK), The Daily Mail (UK), El Mundo (Spain), the Mirror (UK), BuzzFeed (USA), Equality Now (UK), The Open Society Foundations (USA), and various other international Media and Organizations. Currently, he continues on covering major news in Tunisia. In addition, as a documentary photographer, he’s working mainly on several short as well as long term projects that focus on social issues. He’s available for assignments in Tunisia as well as all around the world and well-prepared for covering all sorts of events, even within conflict area.
