In 2012 I made several self portrait projects. One of them was a garden set up with my father. I arranged the garden to look like our living room, rented all the furnitures and went out the morning as we normally would in our actual living room. We even had an unexpected guest, and my father pretended to get into an altercation with him and I held him back.

I have never shared this before. Thank you for stitching the photos together and adding the sound effects!

Lost on me for a long time that I’m important. No kidding, we sometimes think everyone else matters more than us. But the reverse actually allows for real caring to be fostered and groomed.

Are you neglecting yourself today in favor of something else you feel is more important than you? It isn’t a message to encourage unhealthy narcissism. But rather a message to encourage healthy sense of self. Just enough. And then we become better to everything and everyone around us. Including our work.

How many of us feel this way? Like we never do enough. Haven’t accomplished enough. We look around and we see more dedicated people. Award winners. Prolific photographers. It’s easy to put ourselves down when we look around. But we don’t all have the same lives, and ours is no less harder than the next person.

We’re on our own journey and we must appreciate what we’ve done every once in a while. Refuel ourselves with compassion and kindness. And we go another day. Remember why we do this. We need it for our well being. Other people also need it from us as well, and we also need them to keep producing. As cliche as it sounds, we really are in this together.
