We managed to find 2 nesting Scarlet Macaws 🦜🌿 in Quepos close to Manuel Antonio National Park (thanks to our local guide Nicolas - Manuelantoniothebest.com). The birds were on a traffic island close to a large supermarket and didn’t seem to be bothered by all the cars and loud noises. They kissed, preened and tended for their young throughout the hour we spent together.

What’s the first bird to post from our Costa Rica trip this week? Not a trivial question with over 3000 shots. With a bit of recency bias, the Montezouma Oropendola won. This magnificent bird is known for it’s distinctive facial markings and bicolored beak, extensive vocal range including gurgling sounds, elaborate mating displays and even more elaborate nest structures. We spent about 40 minutes in each others company this morning and loved every minute of it
