THE ROAD TO WARSAW:

SINGAPORE — The asphalt was hot, but the stakes were higher. After 48 hours of high-octane hoops at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup Qualifier, the dust has finally settled in Singapore. Six teams—three men’s and three women’s—have officially punched their tickets to the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026 in Poland.

If you missed the action at The Kallang, you missed a masterclass in clutch genes and heart-stopping finishes. Here is how the final spots for Warsaw were won.

THE MEN’S DRAW: CARDIAC KIDS & COMEBACK KINGS

The men’s side was a gauntlet of physical play and overtime heroics.

Tall Blacks’ Overtime Thriller: New Zealand is heading to Poland, but they had to go through the ringer to get there. In a 19-17 overtime barnburner against Brazil, Te Tuhi Lewis and Chris Martin proved why they are the tournament’s premier duo, sealing the deal with a cold-blooded two-pointer from behind the arc.

Czechia’s Resilience: Trailing midway against Italy, the Czechs looked like they were on the ropes. Enter Filip Novotny. Leading a furious comeback, Novotny dropped 11 points to power a 20-16 victory, leaving the Italians stunned.

Brazil’s Redemption: Despite the heartbreaking loss to New Zealand earlier in the day, Brazil didn't blink in the last-chance game. They dismantled Italy 21-13, finding a rhythmic offensive flow that the "Azzurri" simply couldn't track.

THE WOMEN’S DRAW: PURE DOMINANCE & HOMECOURT HEARTBREAK

While the men’s side was defined by parity, the women’s side featured a mix of veteran composure and rising stars.

Hungary’s Masterclass: The most dominant force in Singapore was undoubtedly Hungary. Finishing with a perfect record, they silenced the home crowd with a 21-13 win over Singapore. Vivi Böröndy was the undisputed MVP of the weekend, putting up a massive 13 points in the clincher.

Lithuania Keeps it Cool: Experience mattered in the high-stakes clash between Lithuania and the Philippines. Kamile Nacickaite-Van der Horst dictated the tempo, scoring 11 points in a 21-16 victory that secured their flight to Warsaw.

Gilas Women Claim the Last Spot: The Philippines didn't let the loss to Lithuania dampen their spirits. They bounced back in the final qualification game, bruising their way to a 21-10 win over Singapore. Kacey De la Rosawas a force of nature, finishing with 11 points and ensuring the Filipina fans have plenty to cheer for this June.

Jakarta Indonesia ArenA 07 Feb 2026

Jakarta was buzzing as the Islamic Republic of Iran clinched the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Indonesia 2026™ title in a nail-biting showdown that had everyone on the edge of their seats. After a wild final that ended 5-5 in extra time, Iran edged out Indonesia 5-4 in a penalty shootout, claiming their incredible 14th championship.

From the get-go, the match was pure adrenaline. Indonesia’s Rio Pangestu fired the first salvo in the third minute, set up perfectly by Ardiansyah Nur, forcing Iran’s Bagher Mohammadi into a frantic save. But Iran struck back almost immediately. Hossein Tayebibidgoli carved through the defense and slotted the ball past a diving Ahmad Habiebie, leveling the score in seconds.

Iran couldn’t capitalize on a golden chance when Ahmad Abbasi, clear on goal, missed twice in quick succession—first sending the ball just wide, then hitting the side netting. Indonesia seized the moment. Reza Gunawan ramped up the energy in the seventh minute, pouncing on a rebound and slipping the ball past a stunned Mohammadi.

Just a minute later, Israr Megantara doubled Indonesia’s lead with a slick move around Mohammadi and a cool finish. Then, in the ninth minute, Megantara struck again, blasting a fierce shot from the left that left the keeper grasping at air.

Indonesia kept the pressure on, with Firman Adriansyah charging down the middle in the 13th minute, but Mohammadi was equal to the challenge, blocking two shots in quick succession.

Iran thought they’d clawed one back in the 16th minute through Abbasi, but the goal was waved off after the ball was ruled out of play. Still, Iran didn’t let up. A free-kick from Salar Aghapour was swiftly smothered by Habiebie, but moments later, Mahdi Karimi fired his team back into the hunt, curling a precise shot around the wall into the net.

The second half kicked off with Iran turning up the heat. Four minutes in, Abbasi’s shot, deflected off Indonesia’s Samuel Eko, crept past Habiebie to even the score. But Indonesia quickly reclaimed the lead thanks to Eko, who redeemed himself with a powerful strike from the edge of the circle that left Mohammadi helpless.

Iran threw everything forward. Aghapour rattled the post, Derakshani hammered the crossbar, and Tayebibidgoli narrowly missed the target. Their persistence paid off when Karimi smashed home the equalizer in the 38th minute during a power play, sending the match into extra time.

In extra time, Iran dominated the first half but couldn’t find the net. Indonesia’s substitute keeper Muhammad Nizar became a wall, making crucial saves that kept his team alive. The crowd erupted when Israr Megantara scored off a quick corner in the 49th minute, but Iran stunned the stadium seconds later. Abbasi chest-controlled a fierce strike from Aghapour to tie the match once again.

The final drama unfolded in the penalty shootout. Indonesia’s Nizar saved Masoud Yousef’s first kick, and Iran’s keeper Mahdi Rostami denied Dewa Rizki’s shot for the hosts. But when Israr’s sixth kick sailed wide, Hossein Sabzi calmly slotted the winning penalty, sealing a thrilling victory for Iran.

This final wasn’t just a game—it was a relentless battle, a back-and-forth masterclass that left fans breathless and crowned Iran as true kings of Asian futsal once again.

| Singapore — The Young Matildas exploded into life at the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup™️ China 2026 Qualifiers, delivering a jaw-dropping 22–0 thrashing of the Northern Mariana Islands in their opening Group E clash on Monday night.

From the very first whistle, Australia made their intentions crystal clear. Claire Corbett broke the deadlock in just the second minute, setting the tone for what would become a record-smashing rout. Star striker Izabella Rako was unstoppable up front, bagging four goals in a masterclass display of pace and precision.

By halftime, the Aussies were already running riot with a 10–0 lead, thanks to a flurry of goals from Rako, Theodora Mouithys, Rubi Sullivan, Keira Sarris, Abbie Puckett, Sienna Calvanese, and Sakura Leong.

The second half brought no mercy. Maeve Nicholas joined the party just minutes after the restart, before Rako sealed her fourth of the night. Tyra Bagiante, Muir, Calvanese, Willa Pearson, Leyla Hussein, and Nicholas again piled on the damage, as Australia’s attack proved simply unstoppable.

It was a statement performance from a side determined to dominate the qualifiers — showcasing not just firepower, but slick teamwork and total control of the pitch.

The Northern Mariana Islands, meanwhile, will be aiming to bounce back when they face Singapore on Wednesday. The hosts will have their own test of strength when they take on the red-hot Australians two days later.

Final Score: Northern Mariana Islands 0 – 22 Australia
Star of the Match: Izabella Rako (4 goals)
