THE ROAD TO WARSAW:
SINGAPORE — The asphalt was hot, but the stakes were higher. After 48 hours of high-octane hoops at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup Qualifier, the dust has finally settled in Singapore. Six teams—three men’s and three women’s—have officially punched their tickets to the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026 in Poland.
If you missed the action at The Kallang, you missed a masterclass in clutch genes and heart-stopping finishes. Here is how the final spots for Warsaw were won.
THE MEN’S DRAW: CARDIAC KIDS & COMEBACK KINGS
The men’s side was a gauntlet of physical play and overtime heroics.
Tall Blacks’ Overtime Thriller: New Zealand is heading to Poland, but they had to go through the ringer to get there. In a 19-17 overtime barnburner against Brazil, Te Tuhi Lewis and Chris Martin proved why they are the tournament’s premier duo, sealing the deal with a cold-blooded two-pointer from behind the arc.
Czechia’s Resilience: Trailing midway against Italy, the Czechs looked like they were on the ropes. Enter Filip Novotny. Leading a furious comeback, Novotny dropped 11 points to power a 20-16 victory, leaving the Italians stunned.
Brazil’s Redemption: Despite the heartbreaking loss to New Zealand earlier in the day, Brazil didn't blink in the last-chance game. They dismantled Italy 21-13, finding a rhythmic offensive flow that the "Azzurri" simply couldn't track.
THE WOMEN’S DRAW: PURE DOMINANCE & HOMECOURT HEARTBREAK
While the men’s side was defined by parity, the women’s side featured a mix of veteran composure and rising stars.
Hungary’s Masterclass: The most dominant force in Singapore was undoubtedly Hungary. Finishing with a perfect record, they silenced the home crowd with a 21-13 win over Singapore. Vivi Böröndy was the undisputed MVP of the weekend, putting up a massive 13 points in the clincher.
Lithuania Keeps it Cool: Experience mattered in the high-stakes clash between Lithuania and the Philippines. Kamile Nacickaite-Van der Horst dictated the tempo, scoring 11 points in a 21-16 victory that secured their flight to Warsaw.
Gilas Women Claim the Last Spot: The Philippines didn't let the loss to Lithuania dampen their spirits. They bounced back in the final qualification game, bruising their way to a 21-10 win over Singapore. Kacey De la Rosawas a force of nature, finishing with 11 points and ensuring the Filipina fans have plenty to cheer for this June.
