Birdwalking in Gaia

Birdwalking in Gaia Portraits of birds. And more. Its not about the camera or the lens. Its only about the bird and its context. Because every photo has a story behind it.

Is this a love hug or a wrestling match 😀
Very distinct patterns on both the monitor lizards, so what’s up here?
Male-female-spring dance or
Get-lost-this-is-my-water dance!

This fuzzy ball is baby Brown-throated Sunbird. How do I know? Because kindly folks at SG Birders helped to ID it!

Tree twigs. Wispy things. Constructed and woven together by this architect mommy.
Olive Sunbird, female.
An engineer par excellence! A sturdy home that is gently floating in the breeze, higher storey, with lots of light.
Wishing her lots of good luck for a successful hatching.

Yellow Bittern.
A common, regular, yet skulking shy winter migrant.
I found it at a spot where it stayed in the open, walking on the lily pads. I was happy to see it successfully fish!
What it teaches me - If you want to walk on water, find lily pads. And grow large feet.

Yellow Bittern.
The shy and skulking bird, hiding along the water edges, darting in and out of the reeds.
The noisy boys, who were trying to catch fish, made it very alert. So it would stop still, creating perfect opportunities for the lurking photographer at the lily pond.

Oil Palm Story No. 16.
Red-chest Parakeet.
The 16th creature in my record to feast on the Palm Tree outside my window.
I’ve been waiting for them to show up! Any parrots or parakeets. And finally they arrived today to sample to oil palm fruits.
Not a great pic, but I hope to have better shots. Waiting for their return now that they’ve sampled the delights on offer.

Help ID this Palm tree pleeease!

The story of the other Palm Tree #1.
Unexpected guests today that terrified those stubborn mynahs who are the self-appointed guardians of these fruits!
The Pied Imperial Pigeon, feasting on the ruby reds marbles that bunch in abundance on the tree.
