🎬 Part 2: The High-Stakes Auction 🏷️

πŸ’° Part 2/3: The Secret Bidding War for Taiwan's Best Tuna 🀫

The fish are off the boatsβ€”now the real chaos begins. Welcome to the high-stakes auction floor of the Donggang Bluefin Tuna Festival.

This is where millions of NTD change hands in minutes. Watch how the process unfolds:

❄️ The Inspection: Clear away the packing ice and measure the length of these giants.

πŸ” The Quality Check: Professional buyers circle the catch like hawks, checking the meat, fat content, and quality.

πŸ“ The Secret Offers: Buyers claim their fish by sticking their company name directly onto the tuna and writing down their offer price.

βš–οΈ The Final Sale: Once the buyer is confirmed, the ice is cleared, the official weight is logged, and the tuna is cleared for transport.

It’s fast, intense, and a fascinating look into a timeless tradition.

Drop a comment below if you think you could handle the pressure of this auction floor! πŸ‘‡ (Part 3 coming up next: the breakdown!)

Part 1: From Sea to Shore 🚒

🐟 Part 1/3: 5:15 AM at Taiwan’s Legendary Bluefin Tuna Festival πŸŒ…

I set my alarm to capture a side of Donggang, Taiwan, that most travelers never see. Arriving just before sunrise, the docks were already buzzing with energy.

This first video kicks off our 3-part series, taking you right to the water's edge:

βš“ Life on Land: The calm before the storm as the docks wake up.

πŸŽ’ Prepping for Sea: Getting ready for the next grueling run.

πŸ—οΈ The Heavy Lifting: Massive, prized bluefin tuna being carefully hoisted from the boats and transported straight to the auction site.

The scale of these fish is absolutely unbelievable in person. Hit play to see how the madness begins!

Stay tuned for Part 2, where the silent auction kicks off. πŸ·οΈπŸ‘‡

The fading art of handmade mee sua.

Spent the day documenting something incredibly beautiful, yet bittersweet. This old couple in their 60s represents the third generation of traditional hand-pulled mee sua makers. Every single day, they go through the grueling, repetitive process of rolling, and repeatedly pulling the dough until it’s thin as thread, before letting it dry under the sun.

It is backbreaking, exhausting work. Watching them move in perfect sync made me realize how much love and muscle memory goes into a single bowl of noodles. With the future of the business uncertain, crafts like this are disappearing right before our eyes.

Watch until the end to see the final stretch.
