A pretty special shoot.
For those who know me, they’ll tell you — I don’t just like a cold pint of beer, I love it. So finding a bar I genuinely enjoy means a lot to me. There’s something about seeing familiar faces, even when you’re flying solo at the bar, that just hits differently.
But this wasn’t a bar I frequented. I wish I had — but I was a little too late.
I first met Hazel and Kid (the owners) when I dropped by Birdie for a drink with some friends. That’s when I got to hear a bit of their story. They’re a couple who ran a small, cozy bar in the East, and their love story actually began at the bar. Kid was already running the place, and Hazel had just come by to meet a client ,I guess Kid’s charm worked its magic.
I wish I could remember more of the details, but I was there for drinks, and, well… things got a little fuzzy. Still, I remember how open they were, sharing their stories with a few occational “ Eh TAH” . Even though it was only my first few visits, it just felt… right.
I remember thinking to myself how special their story was. And when I said I was a little too late — I meant that literally. They’d already decided to close the business. Still, better late than never. I’m just glad I got to be there to document their last few days at the bar.
