It's been a while since I have been able to do any kind of studying whatsoever. The person issues I have going on at the moment has led me to get a six month extension so I can finish off this module in time, as well as give me time for others in order to gain a degree. I've been contemplating our role as students and the information we try to collate to back our assignments using references and research. [ 412 more words ]

More lens ball work and we have snow!

Finally, after many days of dark, gloom and rain, as well as unlimited minus temperature nights, we finally got our first dump of snow. Unlike the British weather, the low temperatures meant the snow stayed for a few days. We're quite isolated at the farm when this happens but after the clouds had passed a couple of days later, blue skies and the sun appeared for the few hours we get daylight. [ 204 more words ]

Assignment 2, in my mind, was a tricky one. I was just about to start my journey to Sweden and wanted to get something achieved before I left as I didn’t know when I would have time to shoot over there until I was settled. Although I had planned for the shoot, as written here, I had not allowed time for a reshoot should I need to. [ 595 more words ]

Brief:- Pt. 1 Find a subject in front of a background with depth. Take a close viewpoint and zoom in; you’ll need to be aware of the minimum focusing distance of your lens. Focus on the subject and take a single shot. Then, without changing the focal length, set the focus to infinity and take a second shot. Pt.2 Again without moving the camera, select a very small aperture (perhaps one stop above the minimum to avoid diffraction) and find a point of focus that will give you acceptable sharpness throughout the entire field, from foreground to infinity. Brief:- Find a location with good light for a portrait shot. Place your subject some distance in front of a simple background and select a wide aperture together with a moderately long focal length such as 100mm on a 35mm full-frame camera (about 65mm on a cropped-frame camera). Take a viewpoint about one and a half metres from your subject, [ 262 more words ]

Brief: Select your longest focal length and compose a portrait shot fairly tightly within the frame in front of a background with depth. Take one photograph. Then walk towards your subject while zooming out to your shortest focal length. Take care to frame the subject in precisely the same way in the viewfinder and take a second shot. Brief: Find a scene that has depth. From a fixed position, take a sequence of five or six shots at different focal lengths without changing your viewpoint. (You might like to use the specific focal lengths indicated on the lens barrel.) As you page through the shots on the preview screen it almost feels as though you’re moving through the scene. I use Instagram quite a lot to find out what other photographers are doing. Being able to look in on what the world of photography is doing in one app is great. Sometimes the smallest things can make a huge difference in our confidence to create a good image. Putting things up on Instagram for likes is one thing but when you start to understand and read an image you also realise that a lot of Instagram is bereft of quality, justifying their shots of food with hashtag battling to keep popular. There is nothing, however, more positive than someone taking the time out of their busy lives to commend you personally on your own work and make an effort to help you take your work to the next level because they believe in you.
