The waters around Guishan Island (龜山島) — also known in English as Turtle Island — off the coast of Yilan County (宜蘭縣), Taiwan (臺灣) 🇹🇼, is a hotspot for spotting spinner dolphins (飛旋海豚). The best time for dolphin-spotting is usually around April to September.

We took a boat from Wushi Harbour (烏石港) in Toucheng (頭城) and guides took us on a hiking tour of Guishan Island before sailing further out to sea to see the dolphins. Whales can also be spotted, but sadly we were not so lucky.

Whilst we saw a few turtles whilst in Guishan Island, I don't think it is for the abundance of turtles that got the island it's name — the second slide of the carousel probably explains the reason for the name a lot better lol. 🐢

Flying with .uk to Taiwan, I had 34 minutes — 00:08 UTC to 00:42 UTC — to shoot 96 frames out of a plane window at 37,000 ft.
