WE BELONG HERE is a collective photographic art project about female presence in the ocean. It brings together women surfers to explore their experiences, feelings and wishes around taking up space in an often male-dominated lineup.

The artwork brings together two interconnected elements: the photographs of female surfers with statements and affirmations written directly onto their bodies and the collection of female voices. Female surfers were invited to share their personal experiences, thoughts and wishes.

Many of us feel underrepresented, sidelined, insecure, full of fear and pushed away (and so much more). The experience of women in the lineup is just one example of the many ways women can feel in society.

What happened during the shoot became the work itself. Women who had never met paddled out together, laughed together, held space for each other. The sense of sisterhood was real.

We want to see more laughter than competition. More encouragement than judgment. More connection than hierarchy. We believe that in sisterhood, in showing up for each other in the water and beyond, the tides can finally change.

We need to remember that we already belong here.

I am still filled with excitement and gratefulness for yesterday. I had the opportunity to exhibit in Costa da Caparica, the town I live in. It's a project that is personal and collective. I hope I find more voices and opportunities to display and to continue this project ❤️❤️❤️
