I always say the bride getting ready happens in slow motion.

As their photographer you want to make them feel like time stands still.

For Dominque, that’s exactly the mentality I went with.

Having Mom fly in from Germany and Penelopi, her daughter, in the same room creates a generational wealth of epic proportions.

Having them both in the same room while she prepares for an event of this magnitude deserves a pace in conjunction with her deepest emotions.

Happiness.

Nostalgia.

Euphoria of the utmost degree.

As she read the letter given to her by Marques Aurelius, her soon-to-be husband, her face couldn’t help but light up with joy.

When I asked her to stand near the balcony door, I remember kneeling down to capture her lovely lilac bouquet as her daughter looked on.

They held hands shortly thereafter and I couldn’t help but cement that connection of mother and daughter as grandma bustled the dress behind Dominque.

This was a day I had circled on my calendar for the longest time and working with the incredible team below took things to the next level.

There’s something very unique about knowing someone most of your life.

It’s ten times more special when that someone is your high school sweetheart.

That’s the case for Giovanny and Guadalupe who met while attending high school together more than seven years ago.

Hailing from Queens, New York, they’ve actually visited Puerto Rico a few times before and given that fact, Gio decided it’d be the perfect place to propose.

He entrusted the help of my friends I DO | Proposal Planner to assist with the decor at lovely Isla Verde Beach with seemingly nobody around for the climactic moment.

We did, however, garner a bit of attention later when beachgoers spotted us and started clapping and cheering which got the couple to smile and laugh thankfully.

Gio went for a quiet setting with a nice red color palette, cushions in the sand, champagne on ice in the bucket and a delicious set of chocolate covered strawberries.

It played right into my hands because it allowed me to orbit these two lovebirds for the entire hour together and get creative with my photography.

Wishing them a lifetime of happiness.

Behind the scenes of a beautiful marriage proposal at the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico. 🌴

This intimate proposal was planned by and featured a minimalist private picnic right by the water, complete with champagne, delicious snacks, and an incredible Puerto Rican sunset.

We scheduled the proposal for the beginning of Golden Hour, giving us that precious window of soft, warm light before the sun disappeared completely. If you’re planning an afternoon proposal, this is one of my favorite times to do it.

But photographing a surprise proposal is about much more than simply capturing the moment someone gets down on one knee.

There’s a lot happening behind the camera.

You can give your client all the instructions in the world, but when the moment finally arrives, emotions can take over. Thankfully, he absolutely nailed it. He followed my directions perfectly and stayed down on one knee long enough for me to find multiple compositions and capture the proposal in both landscape and portrait orientation.

You’ll also notice that I’m moving around quite a bit. That’s because the couple wasn’t standing directly underneath the archway. They were positioned slightly diagonally, which meant I had to move quickly to find a clean angle of their faces.

These tiny details matter.

And I never consider the proposal finished once the ring goes on the finger.

The kiss, the hug, the laughter, the disbelief, and those first few moments together afterward are some of my favorite photographs of the entire experience. The emotions are still completely raw, and that gives me an opportunity to transition from documenting the proposal into creating beautiful, intentional portraits of the newly engaged couple.

Those moments before and after the knee hits the ground are just as important as the proposal itself. They’re what turn a single moment into a complete story.

For this behind-the-scenes footage, I used my DJI Osmo Pocket 4 and graded everything with Phantom LUTs.

Another unforgettable Puerto Rico proposal and engagement session in the books. ❤️

Congratulations to the happy couple!

One of the questions I always clients who choose I Do is why, out of all places on planet Earth, they chose Puerto Rico as the backdrop for their proposal.

José, a native of Chicago, Illinois and former , said he had never been before and thought it'd be the most magical place on which to get down on one knee.

He wasn't wrong.

He chose Isla Verde as the location that would host his amazing decor put together by the ladies.

A violinist showed up shortly before their session began.

Part of my instructions for José were to propose at 6 p.m. on the dot because it marked the beginning of Golden Hour.

As a former Marine, he followed my guidance to the letter and did an amazing job.

I was there to capture it all and wanted to show you the behind the scenes of what it was like for them as they smiled and laughed watching the sun set behind them.

Wishing these two a lovely time in Puerto Rico full of celebration.

Cheers for the happy couple!

There are love stories that begin in a place.

And then there are love stories that travel.

Bitaniya and Ermi carry Ethiopia with them. A country rich in history, culture, tradition, family and stories that reach back thousands of years.

A place where coffee is more than a drink, where gathering around a table is an expression of connection, and where family holds a deeply meaningful place in life.

But their story didn't stay in Ethiopia.

Life carried them to Colorado, where another chapter began. And eventually, their journey brought them even farther south, across the Caribbean, to Puerto Rico.

And this is where Ermi chose to begin their next chapter.

He entrusted the mind of to put together a lovely decor and picnic perfect for the occasion.

Surrounded by the warmth of the island, with the ocean nearby and the person he loves standing in front of him, he asked Bitaniya the question that would change everything.

She said yes.

There is something incredibly beautiful about that journey.

From Ethiopia, to Colorado, to Puerto Rico.

Different countries. Different landscapes. Different chapters.

But the same two people.

Because sometimes home isn't a place you were born. Sometimes home is the person you find along the way.

And after traveling so far from where their story began, Bitaniya and Ermi came to Puerto Rico to choose where the next chapter would start.

Here’s to the beginning of forever. 🇪🇹🇵🇷❤️
