She Chose the Mountains Over Everything… and Never Came Home

At just 39 years old, Sarah Mallory Geis of San Antonio, Texas, made a life-changing decision. She closed her successful Pilates business to pursue the dream that had captured her heart—mountaineering.

For Sarah, the mountains were more than towering peaks; they were a calling. She embraced a new chapter filled with adventure, determination, and the pursuit of the world's highest summits.

Broad Peak became part of that journey. Tragically, it also became the place where her dream came to an end.

Sarah's courage, passion, and unwavering spirit will be remembered by all who knew her story. Though she never returned home, her legacy will live on in the mountains she loved so deeply.

Rest in peace, Sarah Mallory Geis. 🕊️

نذیرہ الحارثی ایک باہمت عمانی کوہ پیما تھیں، جنہوں نے دنیا کی بلند ترین اور دشوار ترین چوٹیوں پر چڑھ کر اپنے ملک کا نام روشن کیا۔

ان کا سفر پہاڑوں سے نہیں بلکہ تعلیم کے شعبے سے شروع ہوا۔ وہ پہلے جغرافیہ کی استاد رہیں، بعد ازاں عمان کی وزارتِ تعلیم میں خدمات انجام دیں۔ قدرت اور مہم جوئی سے بڑھتی ہوئی محبت نے بالآخر انہیں کوہ پیمائی کی دنیا کی جانب راغب کیا۔

سال 2019 میں انہوں نے تاریخ رقم کرتے ہوئے ماؤنٹ ایورسٹ سر کرنے والی پہلی عمانی خاتون اور مجموعی طور پر دوسری عمانی شخصیت ہونے کا اعزاز حاصل کیا۔ اس کے بعد انہوں نے دنیا کی کئی بلند چوٹیوں، جن میں ماناسلو، کے ٹو (K2) اور نانگا پربت شامل ہیں، کو بھی کامیابی سے سر کیا۔

30 جولائی 2026 کو پاکستان کے سلسلۂ قراقرم میں واقع براڈ پیک کی مہم کے دوران کیمپ III کے نیچے برفانی تودہ گرنے سے وہ جان کی بازی ہار گئیں۔

انہوں نے اپنی زندگی اسی راستے پر گزاری جسے انہوں نے حوصلے، عزم اور جذبے کے ساتھ منتخب کیا تھا۔

نذیرہ الحارثی کی میراث کسی ایک چوٹی سے کہیں بلند ہے۔ وہ عمانی خواتین اور نوجوانوں کے لیے عزم، ہمت اور ناممکن کو ممکن بنانے کی ایک روشن مثال بن کر ہمیشہ یاد رکھی جائیں گی۔

Sohail Sakhi was a passionate mountaineer whose heart always belonged to the mountains. Through unwavering determination, courage, and humility, he successfully summited some of the world's highest peaks, including K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, and Kanchenjunga, inspiring countless people with his love for adventure and mountaineering.

In July 2026, His final expedition was to Broad Peak, where he pursued his lifelong passion with the same fearless spirit that defined his life. Following the tragic Broad Peak incident and despite extensive search efforts, Sohail has not been found.

With heavy hearts, his family has now begun the final farewell and funeral rites, accepting Allah's will with faith and patience. They have requested family, friends, and the Jamat to join them in offering Fateha and to remember Sohail in their prayers.

May Allah (SWT) grant Sohail Sakhi the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous, forgive his shortcomings, and bless his family with strength, patience, and peace. Ameen. 🕊️
