“Ab toh cheezein bohat behtar ho gayi hain.”

We say this so conveniently, often forgetting to give women the credit they deserve. Things didn’t get better on their own. Women fought for centuries, spoke up, challenged systems and reclaimed their fundamental rights.

While it is important to correct the broken records of history, written through a masculine lens that often erased women’s contributions to shaping the world, it is equally important to acknowledge and stand in solidarity with the women doing this difficult work today.

Momina, consider this a prayer for your safety and strength, sent your way by all of us. May more women know you, find courage in you, become like you and stand beside you.

Allah Pa Hawala. ❤️

Boys vs girls karwa dein toh unfair ho jayega because boys powerhouse hain. 💀

The male entitlement to assume they are naturally better competitors, the misogyny hidden behind the whole “we need to make things fair” argument, and the confidence with which they underestimated the girls.

And guess what, boys lost the game !

Is this a vlog? I don’t know.

But I went to watch So Suite by Yasir Hussain, and this is what happened from the moment we entered Arts Council Pakistan to the organised chaos between and outside the shoots.

This is the Gray Side of Story. Because things aren’t as black and white as they appear on social media. So we record the gray too.

Personal attacks are often disguised as disagreement. Instead of engaging with someone’s argument, people attack their identity, appearance or personal choices to discredit what they have to say.
Disagreement challenges an argument. A personal attack targets the person making it

Everyone keeps saying Pakistanis are obsessed with vloggers. But are we confusing social media visibility with actual popularity?

Pakistan has a population of over 250 million, and YouTube’s advertising reach is only a fraction of that. The internet can make a particular kind of audience look like everyone when it really isn’t.

The algorithm is not a census. And your feed is not Pakistan.

In Part 3 of The Gray Side of Tamasha, we look at the gender stereotypes hiding in everyday statements like “larkon mein snitching nahi hoti” and “larkay toh aggressive hotay hain.”

From gendered ideas of loyalty and masculinity to the ways men excuse each other's behaviour, we unpack what these seemingly casual comments reveal about the social conditioning we grow up with.

In Part 2 of The Gray Side of Tamasha, we get into the unspoken rules of male solidarity and the infamous bro code.

When one contestant made comments about women that were muted in the broadcast and another contestant called him out, the conversation shifted to the man who exposed him. Badshah Salamat's reaction raised an interesting question: why can breaking the bro code become a bigger offence than the misogyny it protects?

“BUT THAT’S NOT WHAT I SAID.”

Ah! The straw man fallacy has entered the chat. 🫠

Sometimes we don’t actually respond to the argument. We make up a different one, then argue with that instead.

We unpacked the straw man fallacy and many many other similiar things with examples in this episode of The Gray Podcast.

Misogyny doesn’t become harmless just because it sits behind a screen or is disguised as “her kisi ka apna opinion hota hai”

There is disagreement and then there is a whole lot of behaviour that gets conveniently labelled as “disagreement”
Like dismissiveness, strawman fallacy, sealioning, hate speech and many more.

It’s time we start naming the difference, so we know what deserves engagement and what deserves a block. We discussed all of it and I am sure if you watch the podcast, you would be able to tell the difference.
