A trained chartered accountant by qualification with a restless spirit and an inherent creative streak, a well-paid job in the corporate sector didn’t seem to fulfill his ambitions, so Ayaz decided to abandon his job and go for some short technical courses in photography. ed young man, has presented us with a myriad of images, each lovingly captured, each as different from the next as from the last, and each capturing the imagination of the viewers – here is bold color, black and white, form and shape, light and shade and everything in between - thriving on twisting what we expect to see into something shocking and memorable, and continuously redefining funky individuality. While the world talks about his shock tactics, Ayaz makes statements with his unique style and well thought out themes, pushing the boundaries and raising the bar with every click of the shutter. Ayaz is his own competition; hence each photograph he takes is challenging, exciting and of the highest quality, setting his own standards. His diverse variety of imagery spans frames of fashion, portraiture, events, nature, architecture and product photography. Considered one of the premier shutterbugs in Pakistan, Ayaz has been extensively shooting well-known personalities. This long list includes the likes of parliamentarian Fahmida Mirza, the rock band Strings, journalist Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, artists Belinda Eaton and Naiza Khan, architect Naheed Mashooqullah, classical dancer Sheema Kirmani, politician Sharmeela Farooqui, television presenters Mathira, Kiran Khalid, Mahira Khan, Anoushey Ashraf and Saima Mohsin, stylist Tariq Amin, designers Maheen Khan, Rizwan Beyg and Sana Safinaz and actors Humaima, Aisha Khan, Mohib Mirza and Noor. And it is fashion that is starting to give its heart to him with increasing regularity. He has shot the creations of bigwigs of the Pakistani fashion industry like Faiza Samee, Maria B., Shamaeel, Sonya Batla, Rehana Saigol, Deepak Perwani, Ismail Farid, HSY, Sublime and other notable names like Aiesha Varsey, Maheen Karim, Atiya Khan, Nida Azwer, Fahad Hussayn, Yousuf Basheer Qureshi , Sadaf Malaterre and popular retail brands like Teejays, Labels, Mantra and Ego. Ayaz has also shot campaigns for Republic by Omar Farooq, Chinyere and Ayesha F. Hashwani, as well as catalogues for Khaadi, Nishat Lawn and Munib Nawaz’s Miami Fashion Week collection. His artistic and avant-garde fashion shoots have been printed in prominent publications like Libas, Visage, She, The Daily Times Sunday Magazine, Diva, FAQ, Good Times, Women’s Own, The News Instep, Dawn Images, Xpoze, Herald, Beautiful People (India) and Masala (UAE). Ayaz Anis’ nomination for the Lux Style Awards in the category of Best Emerging Talent in Fashion 2010 and Best Fashion Photography 2011 and 2012 has proved that not only is he finally being taken seriously as an artist, but also that his photography is one of the most compelling in contemporary fashion photography. Ayaz has also displayed his work at a few exhibitions, including his very first, titled “Lyrical Movement” and recently “Aik Darjan aur aik” at Photospace Gallery, Karachi. Ayaz is currently working on a book on architectural photography alongside other notable photographers of Pakistan. He also recently contributed to Pfizer’s Corporate Calendar 2011 titled “Our commitment – working together for a healthier Pakistan,” with 5 other photographers, all translating Pfizer Pakistan’s commitments through their artistic work. Ayaz’s portraiture, wedding and event photography have become a status symbol because of its high quality and exclusivity. While the people may talk about Ayaz Anis as “reinventing” himself every time, for Ayaz it is a case of “keep developing” and “keep them guessing.”
