Two private schools in the Davao and Soccsksargen regions have stepped up efforts to prevent possible school violence involving dangerous weapons by requiring students to use transparent or clear bags.
Other schools have also encouraged students to use such bags, while some have started conducting surveys to determine whether their students would be amenable to using transparent bags.
The policy comes after fatal shootings at two schools in Zamboanga City and Tacloban, Leyte.
St. John Paul II College of Davao in Davao City posted a memorandum on its social media page requiring senior high school students to use transparent bags beginning September 16, as part of the school’s updated safety and security guidelines.
Students are also only allowed to place academic essentials inside their bags, including notebooks, paper, pens or pencils, lunch boxes, reading materials, coin purses, and transparent tumblers.
Meanwhile, Holy Child Central Colleges Inc. in Surallah, South Cotabato, has also required its students to use transparent or clear bags when entering the campus.
According to the school, the simple practice is part of its efforts to promote a safe, organized, and comfortable campus environment.
