We Join the Challenge: No Reposting of Live or Graphic Footage.
We understand that the public wants to see the videos circulating online about the shooting incident at Ateneo de Zamboanga. However, as a responsible news platform, we have chosen not to post or repost live or graphic footage of the incident.
In incidents of violence, the impact can go beyond the immediate victims. Such acts may also be intended to create fear, attract attention, and leave a psychological impact on a much wider audience.
Every repost can unintentionally amplify the perpetrator’s visibility, spread panic, traumatize viewers, and potentially contribute to what security experts refer to as the “copycat” or “notoriety effect.”
Let’s not give violent perpetrators the audience they seek.
Don’t amplify the terror.
Don’t glorify the attacker.
Don’t share graphic or live footage.
Instead, share only verified information from authorities and responsible news organizations, particularly information that can help keep people safe.
Our responsibility is not to spread fear. It is to provide accurate information, protect the community, and ensure that we do not become part of the perpetrator’s narrative.
