I visited the new Pho Place in Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union Pho Vietnam and this is what I learned.

Pho is actually a Collision of Three Cultures.

The Name: It is widely theorized that the word "pho" is a Vietnamese corruption of the French word feu (fire).

French provided the beef bones and the simmering techniques, pho is actually a perfect snapshot of Vietnam's history.

The dish is often beautifully described as having French "blood" (the beef broth), a Chinese "body" (the flat rice noodles and warm spices like star anise, which were popularized by Chinese laborers working in Vietnam, and a Vietnamese "soul" (the local herbs, fish sauce, and the ingenuity to put it all together into a balanced soup).

It started as a simple, affordable street food sold by vendors carrying mobile kitchens on wooden poles at dawn and dusk, and eventually evolved into the global icon and now you can enjoy in San Juan!

Maglaya Aviary will definitely one of the reason to re-visit the town of Caba, La Union. What they have is an aviary of 100+ Parrots in 7 different species, the dominant specie that they have are the Sun Conure, Indian Ringneck, & the Parakeets. While some of their parrots are available for buying, their free flight area for their parrots is free for tourist visit. If you are planning to visit, just message their page to book a tour.
