Once, the river called her to slumber,
With flowers pale, and faith undone;
Yet death, in mercy or in blunder,
Returned her flame beneath the sun.
Beneath those stars, her sorrow clings,
A whisper of the night’s undone;
The world may mourn, the world may listen,
But she bears vows that silence cannot shun.
