It takes us a while to realise that being labeled as "mature for your age" when growing up isn’t a genuine compliment or the flex that we might have once thought it was. Sometimes, it was a trauma response.

If we look back honestly at our own childhood, any hyper-independence didn't develop because we were naturally precocious or gifted.

Maybe it developed because our nervous system realized very early that the adults around us couldn't handle the room. Maybe we had to grow up fast, swallow our own needs, and manage the emotional temperature of the house just to keep ourselves safe. Perhaps we built safety on top of stress instead of care.

When you see your own child acting completely carefree, loud, or dependent, your automatic survival reflex might initially judge it as immaturity. But that softness isn't a weakness — it is the ultimate evidence of your healing.

It means they live in an environment so steady and predictable that they have absolutely no biological reason to grow up fast. They don't have to waste a single ounce of their energy running a defense strategy to navigate you.

The fact that they can just be small, silly, and entirely unhurried means you kept your promise. You carried the weight so their shoulders could stay light — and that is the greatest legacy you will ever leave behind. ❤️
