I stare at the LED sign
like it’s the one I’m asking for.
Red light streaks across the doormat
I’d thought was there to show divide.

Sometimes your generosity
is abrasive as it is kind,
and whenever you cross my mind
roadrunners in white flames pass by.

I ignore the siren inside
warning me of these falling floors.
Territorial in the sense that
I’d love to know if it’s just mine.

Always in this jaded city
is your ghost settled and confined,
and whatever relic it finds
through vacuum it will petrify.
