Today, on the 2nd day of our retreat for the student leaders, I brought Gray with me so my wife can rest at home.
Gray went about his normal routine when in church. Playing on his tablet, approaching students he knew, conversing with them about the games they play together while on breaks from the sessions.
Later in the afternoon sessions, I was surprised when he approached me while wearing an ID for Campus Missionaries for that event. He said he wants to be part of it, and our campus director also sent a picture of him wearing the ID in our group chat, sharing that Gray told her, "Tita AJ, I want to be a campus missionary!"
When my wife asked him why he wanted to become one, he simply answered, "I like it because daddy works in it."
Hearing this may seem too normal, because children are always drawn to copying their parents, and he probably hasn't grasped the whole picture of what we do as campus missionaries, but I am proud to hear this as a dad. Not because I want him to become a CM and follow me, (๐๐ ๐๐ค๐ช๐ง๐จ๐, ๐๐ ๐๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ก๐ก๐จ ๐๐๐ข, ๐ฌ๐'๐ก๐ก ๐๐ก๐๐๐ก๐ฎ ๐ฃ๐ช๐ง๐ฉ๐ช๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐๐ก๐ก๐๐ฃ๐,) but because I know that, as young as he is, he's already seeing that we're participating in God's mission as a family.
This has been a reminder and assurance for our family today that what we do in church is not in vain because the next generation sees it. Our hope is that we will continue to inspire him and other next-generation leaders to have the same fire and passion in serving and advancing God's Kingdom as we're doing today.
So, keep going. The next generation sees you, just like how Gray sees us as his parents.
with love,
Coach Jeff
